The X means that the player is in the zone and their X factor ability is active.

You sure?  I think that X is there for players who have the X-Factor ability.  It changes colors when it's active.  Like, if you look at that clip I posted above, the first thing they show is Mahomes' X-Factor trait active by it turning an orange-ish/red color.  You can see Kelce's X still white because it's not active.

In order to activate someone's X-Factor skill, you have to do certain in-game requirements.

Personally I'm not really liking the x factor stuff... Just makes the game seem too much like an arcade style game to me instead of a sports sim.

I like the sound of X-Factor, but I won't really know until I play it.  I just like the idea of elite players have specialist having skills that continue to further separate them from other players.  In Madden, speed has always been a top trait.  Myles Jack is more valuable than Aaron Donald because of two reasons:  1.  Jack can be an edge rusher, while Donald is better suited for inside and 2.  Jack has higher speed rating than Donald.

So now, Donald's traits make him so much better and make him more of an impact player... which is what he should be.  He can drop opposing QB throwing stats by bulling an o-lineman back toward the QB, which is what would happen in real life.  That's never mattered before.  Also, he has a skill that allows him to block shed faster, which makes him more consistent.

Obviously, this could all backfire and be insanely broken, but it sounds cool to me.

Yeah. It's cool that elite players have chances to actually stand out as elite players. It should make each game feel a little different. Which has been a big complaint forever.

I wonder if rookies or other players have a chance to develop into x factor players. Would be kinda lame if not.

They said they will update it throughout the season, so guys could gain or even lose their X-Factor ability.

I wonder how it will work in franchise mode though.

My biggest question will be how they do it for CPU generated rookie classes. I think this could be a great change for franchise. They've done a better job of hiding who the stars are in the draft classes, but this will be like NBA 2k now I think with badges.

Like @bucsfan333 said, can players gain a superstar trait through development?

We’ve made large updates to our Development Trait system to support Superstar and Zone abilities. The Development Traits in Madden 20 are: Normal, Star, Superstar, and Superstar X-Factor. Both Superstar and X-Factors players can earn Superstar Abilities, but only X-Factors can earn Zone Abilities.

Sounds like they will be able and the abilities they earn will be based off their archetype.  They don't really explain how the system will work as far as what a player needs to do to earn that, but I bet it will be linked to overall/stats/awards.

Interesting.... I would guess it's something like "finish the season with 20 30 yard receptions" or something like that to get the Double Me zone ability.

I wish there was a way to share franchises so that I could just download a franchise mode in its second year with all the coaching and player changes/updated rosters.  I could not figure out how to do it yesterday, so I'm probably gonna have to buy the next Madden used again.

Tom Brady's X-Factor Ability (saw it in a video) is "Pro Reads", which highlights the first receiver open if you are standing in the pocket.

That is going to end up being super clutch in online play.  I wonder how many other QBs have that

So basically the All Madden CPU QBs.

Until it ends up the RB every time just like the Pats in real life.
