2nd Mock Offseason

Recommended Posts

After doing a mock offseason with the signing of Kirk Cousins I now want to do one without bringing him in FA.

Opening Cap Space: $79m

Cuts:

Mo Wilkerson- Really disappointed with the way his career here has ended. Thought he would of become an all time great Jet at one point. No doubt he’s gone and will probably kill it for a new team I imagine. $17m saved.

Buster Skrine- Just a penalty machine. I like his attitude and all but really anything over veteran minimum would be too much. We save $6m

Matt Forte- Can see him retiring after a very poor year health wise and production wise. We save another $3m

Ben Ijalana- I can see us upgrading the o-line both in the draft and free agency so an easy cut. Save $4.75m

Updated cap: $109.75m

Resignings:

Mo Claiborne: 3yrs $18m. Mo has been solid this year but with an abysmal injury record and rated #98 CB on PFF I can’t imagine many teams willing to pay him big bucks.

Demario Davis: 3yrs $18m. A real nice bright spot this year. He showed toughness and leadership. But I still don’t think he’s anything amazingly special and wouldn’t pay more than $5-6m a year.

Quincy Enunwa: 1st round tender $4m. Need to bring Q back as I really think he can be a good/great player for us. Not a #1 receiver but in the slot using his huge frame and athleticism would give us a major chess piece on offense.

Kony Ealy: 3yrs $9m. Time for Kony to step up and be a full time starter for us. Used as a bit part player this year I think the jury is still out if he can be a starter in the NFL but opposite Big Cat I think he can be a solid player for us.

Updated cap: $89.99m

Free Agency:

My goal in free agency is to surround our young qb with playmakers and a better o-line. We have some young receivers/tight ends like Stewart, Hansen, Smith, Leggett etc so I want to bring in two legit playmaking vets.

We also have the cash to inject the defense with two/three veteran starters in weak positions.

Jarvis Landry WR 4YR $53m $13.5m Cap. We bring in Jarvis to be our number one receiver and move him all over the field. We need playmakers and he certainly is one. Lacks ideal size but great route runner with solid hands and nice speed.

Jimmy Graham TE 3YR $30m $10m Cap. A slight overpay making Jimmy the highest paid Tight End in the league but we need to spend the extra million or two to tempt these guys in. A tight end can be a qbs best friend and we need that help for the young qb we draft.

Ryan Jensen OC 5YR $40m $8m Cap. A reliable starter who will increase the level of play through the o-line. He can bring leadership and quality which will help the young qb and open holes in the running game.

Andrew Norwell OG 5YR $55m. $11m Cap. After making the big play to improve the o-line we bring in two quality starters who will massively improve the o-line. We make him one of the highest paid guards in the league but I think it’s well worth it.

Justin Houston OLB 3YR $36m. $12m Cap. All the reports are he will be cut in KC after a couple of injury ravaged seasons. We bet big on JH to rebound and give us the pass rusher we’ve wished for. We pay him very well but only on a three year contract.

Malcolm Butler CB 4YR $44m. $11m Cap. Providing the background checks are all okay then I think we look to bring in Butler and make him a top ten paid corner. I don’t see his stock rising much more but for arguments sake I’d be willing to add another 2-3m a year if need be. He gives us a number one CB with great athleticism and size who will play the aggressive man to man defense we will run.

Updated Cap: $24.95m

*Trade* Jets trade OG James Carpenter and a conditional 2019 pick to the Steelers for Martavis Bryant. (Jets also pay half of Carpenters 2018 salary).

Updated Cap: $27.65m

2018 Draft:

1. Browns- Sam Darnold

2. Giants- Josh Rosen

3. Colts- Saquon Barkley

4. Browns- Bradley Chubb

5. Broncos- Josh Allen

6. Jets- Baker Mayfield. QB. The fourth qb to be taken but for me the best for us in this class. He has the confidence and passion to thrive in NY. He gives us a legit franchise qb and with the weapons and help around him he should succeed compared to the embarrassming supporting cast Sanchez and Geno has here.

37. Jets- Ronald Jones. RB. We get ourselves a three down running back with serious talent, speed and home run ability. He’s likened to Kamara which says it all really. No more late round runners we need to pair our franchise qb with a franchise rb.

49- Jets- Ogbonnia Okoronkwo. OLB. At this moment we would us OO as a pass rushing specialist on third down but overtime look to make him a starter opposite Houston/Jenkins. He has great speed off the edge and can come in and just go rush the passer from day one.

*TRADE* Jets trade #72, #169, for #67 from Indy.

67- Jets- Donte Jackson. CB. The electric Jackson is one of the fastest players in college and another big time playmaker. He could be used in ST and primiraly in the slot as he lacks ideal size at only 175lbs. Another LSU DB for our backfield!

103- Jets- Tyrell Crosby. OT. As we don’t need Crosby to play right away he can come in and learn from an older vet like Beachum and hopefully in a year or two progress tobejng our starting LT. Quite a lot of buzz on him recently but has been projected in the 3-5 round range. If he’s there at the top of the fourth I think we draft him.

148- Jets- Azeem Victor. ILB. Maybe a little high to draft a guy coming off a disappointing year but he’s only a year removed from a stand out player before a leg break really set him back. If he loses the weight he bilked up to for this year I think his old game will return. He’s huge at 6’3 230lbs and he can play ST whilst sitting behind Davis/Lee.

209- Jets- Matt Elam. NT. This is the guy to a throw a late round flier at. At 6’7 360lbs he’s one huge NT who even if by pure size alone has to clog up the middle of the d-line. Obviously he will need to shed some weight but well worth a gamble late on in the draft.

We would definitely move Kearse here but this is solid. Only thing I'm unsure about is Norwells salary, he's gonna be the highest paid OG In The league most likely and will get more than 12 mill a year. Other than that solid

Yeah I’d be down to trade away either Bryant or Kearse depending on the circumstance after preseason.

As for Norwell, if we need to sweeten the pot by a couple of mil a year it will be worth it. We need to give our rookie qb every chance to succeed

Not bad.  Though PFT reported yesterday that the Chiefs are saying "Justin Houston is not a candidate for release".  The rest I'd be down for.

That would be a shame. Surely they wouldn’t keep Hali, Houston and then resign Ford? I’d take any of them to be honest. Even Hali on a 1yr deal as a pass rush specialist

Yeah you would imagine so. Wouldn’t mind bringing him home for a year as he went high school  in New Jersey.
