For all we know maybe RJ would have had a tough time being eligible. Who knows, definitely an odd decision. Hope it works out for him but he’s in for a big disappointment if he thinks the path he’s chosen is it all comparable to Luka’s path to the NBA, which he has suggested while making his rounds. RJ is just going to be an attraction for a season in a low tier league, while Luka was groomed for years in a rich, professional 1 track environment  before playing 3 years in Europe’s top league.

He wants to get paid to play and he'll get a jump start on endorsement deals, not a bad move financially but in terms of personal development and exposure, it's meh.

His dad quoted his GPA and SAT. He'd be the smartest SEC student outside of Vandy, athlete or not.

He didn't want to get exposed in the NCAA so he went running to a crap pro league, lmao.

tferg sucked when he went, it's definitely not gonna be a showcase for him. playing against adults and in a physical league.

interesting. probably is the first player to pass on college for overseas. lose out on the shine/spotlight/media that comes with cbb and get a million or two for your troubles

If he struggles in the NCAA his draft stock will plummet. If he struggles or just plays okay there, people will say it's because he's in a pro league and he'll have excuses. We've also seen with guys like Dante Exum, Darius Garland, Thon Maker, etc. that sometimes being out of sight/out of mind adds more intrigue to a prospect because there's not as much tape to pick them apart.

Love it. Screw the NCAA.

Do these kids have any brain cells... Look at what happened to Bazley. Went from a top 15 draft pick this year to maybe undrafted because he skipped out on college and tried a different route.

It's a completely different situation. Hampton is a better player and will be a better draft prospect than Bazley. The problem with what Bazley did was that he didn't play at all this season, he announced he would play in the G-League and then realized he didn't want to get exposed so he trained on his own. Assuming that Hampton stays healthy this move might actually help his draft stock tbh. Next years draft looks even worse than this years and even if Hampton struggles down there he'll be an intriguing draft prospect because he's playing in a grown man's league.

Different situation sure. But I think it'll be same results... Players that try different routes in past just fade into obscurity. It's hard to remain relevant when you are not in the national spotlight. Sure scouts still do their jobs and scout over seas as well. But they will always have questions on the prospect and cause the player to fall in the draft.
