@Texansfan713 you guys beat Memphis by 3 on a buzzer beater in the regular season and by 2 in the conference tournament, lol.

zaga beat ucla off a buzzer beater.  its still a win lol.

since penny has been hc at memphis he is 1-5 vs houston.  in 3 years he hasnt proven to outcoach kelvin sampson. the only thing he has has done better than sampson is have better recruiting rankings which is irrelevant to me.

You guys beat them in two extremely close games last season and they'd be adding the two best recruits in the country if they land Bates/Duren. You don't see why people would consider them better than Houston next season? Even after you guys just lost your best player to the NBA Draft?

In college sports they usually say year 4 is when you really start to see how good a coach is because that's typically when the roster is made up of only guys that coach recruited. The Memphis program was a mess when Penny took over, Pastner left so they hired Tubby Smith and lost basically their entire team, they had two bad years then fired him, then Penny took over.

During Sampson's first 3 seasons at Houston he was 56-40 with 0 NCAA/NIT appearances. In his fourth year the team went 27-8 and finally made the tournament for the first time in 8 years. Penny Hardaway is 63-32 in his first 3 years at Memphis.

sampson took over a dumpster fire at houston though and he hasnt recruited legit recruits since he bene here.  only legit recruit sampson has had at houston was grimes and that was via transfer. penny started his coaching career getting legit recruits. give sampson penny's recruits and his coaching would make that team a legit final 4 team every year.

lol Houston has so much talent that they have to play a grind it out style to win games, amirite? Beating Cleveland State, Rutgers, Syracuse and Oregon State en route to their Final Four lol. Once they played an actual team, they got boatraced. Nobody worries about Houston basketball lmao.

That Memphis team is going to be like the MonStars if they land those two. Going to run through the AAC. @Texansfan713

They're bringing back:

• Landers Nolley (6'7" 230) - 13.1 ppg last season

• DeAndre Williams (6'9 200) - 11.7 ppg last season

• Lester Quinones (6'5" 205) - 9.5 ppg last season

• Alex Lomax (6'0" 190) - 6.0 ppg last season

Bringing in via transfer

• Chandler Harris (6'8 205) - Former 4* recruit

• Earl Timberlake (6'6" 215) - Former 4* recruit

• Tyler Harris (5'9" 150) - Former 4* recruit

Bringing in via recruiting class

• Jalen Duran (6'10" 220) - #1 overall recruit

• Emoni Bates (6'9" 180) - #2 overall recruit

• Josh Minott (6'8" 180) - #42 overall recruit

• Jonathan Lawson (6'6" 180) - #96 overall recruit

• Sam Ayomide (7'0" 250) - #117 overall recruit

• John Camden (6'7" 200) - #143 overall recruit

Houston offered a scholarship to 8 of the top 100 recruits in the 2020 class and 8 of the top 100 recruits in the 2021 class and landed a commitment from one, Tramon Mark. So it's not that Sampson hasn't tried to land legit recruits, they just don't want to play at Houston.

not our fault we beat who was in front of us.  baylor was the best team all year.  no shame losing to them.  i didnt see wisconsin make it far.

Good thing I'm not a Wisconsin fan! Don't really care either way. Houston is the furthest thing from a juggernaut you can get. Y'all a knockoff Virginia and that's being nice.

lol. thats not his MO.  when i say "legit recruits" i mean the ones ranked as a 5 star. he has gotten his fair share of players ranked in the top 100.   He might "offer" them but he dont like to get one and dones unless its the right situation. example would be bryce griggs for the 2022 class.  we probably wont get him but the fit makes sense.  sampson is all about building a program and having those players here more than 1 year.  thats one reason why penny hasnt made memphis legit his 3 years here.

Sampson while at Houston has impressive NCAA tournament wins over SDSU (11 seed), Georgia State (14 seed), Ohio State (11 seed), Cleveland State (15 seed), Rutgers (10 seed), Syracuse (11 seed), Oregon State (12 seed).

Literally any game they've played against a team that was better than a #10 seed they've lost.
