Cowboys off season - training camp is almost here!!!

Recommended Posts

Made note of this in prospects thread. It's so amazingly stupid I can't find the words.

This is the right move...but decided 3 years later is beyond retarded.

No surprise here.

I'll try to add more as they appear.....

"Likely cut or traded."

I guess SJ is a better businessman than me but you destroy any trade opportunity(if there ever was one) by saying you will eventually cut him.

Smfh @ 1-Tech when will our coaching staff get a clue about the importance of mountain on the D-Line????

The front office/coaching staff is frustrating. They draft players who have position flex, but don't know how to effectively use or develop those players. Byron Jones looked like an ascending player at CB his rookie year with the Dallas Cowboys. Then the front office moves him to free safety where's looked horrible multiple times. Instead of them admitting their mistake after year one, they wait two years to finally switch him back. At this point, who knows what Byron might be. But they have to make a decision on whether they should pick up his fifth year option.

They are doing the same with Ezekiel Elliott. The have only called passes to the flat or screen plays for him, even though Zeke ran routes at Ohio State.

I've said for years this staff fails to utilize players to their max.

This is my biggest issue with the coaching staff. Why is it that players leave Dallas and tend to be successful somewhere else.

Remember when DeMarco Murray was a backup? He came in after an injury in week 10 and was immediately better than who we had starting.(Felix Jones?). It wasn't even close, and it was slap you in the face obvious.

I remember thinking, how the hell did the staff not see that Murray was this much better in practice!? It's not close enough to question. Why the hell has he been on the bench this whole year? It's very obvious that he was light years beyond who we had been starting all year, yet it took an injury in week 10 for him to play! Why are the Cowboys discovering him with the fans during the game? Do they not evaluate these guys in practice!?

Then you look at our FA signings, coupled with the way we can't evaluate are own roster, and you quickly see that someone(s) isn't very good at evaluation of current NFL players. They seem to have college players locked up, but have no idea how to evaluate guys already in the league.  Methinks it's two different departments.

I agree.  The team seems to think that spending a first round pick on a 2 down player is a waste.  Think of what a talented big man could do - occupy two blockers, free up more athletic members of the DL, and keep blockers off of our LB's.  Could elevate the entire defense in my opinion.

Maybe saying they aren't interested is a smoke screen?  History and track record re the position would say no, but one never knows.

Yet the cheer leading clapper remains.

See I don't get that either. "A 2 down player is a waste." There's only 3 downs to work with! Having a stud instead of a scrub on 2\3rds of the series would be nice. Especially when we make CJ Anderson look like Bo Jackson.

And that's only IF they pass the ball on 3rd. One could argue that pass rushers are 1 down players. If you look at it so black and white like that.

Personally I think a guy like Vea could do a little 3 teching. Maybe be valued more for his versatility. But not Payne.

I saw Richard Ashs' fat keister in the game WAY to many snaps for it to be a throw away position. I mean, this isn't the Sam LB we're talking about.

Furthermore, there is evidence that a talented 1-Tech WOULD make a noticeable difference. We saw what Smite McClain was able to do from the 1 tech spot in 2016. McClain was selected 65th overall. I think Payne would be an upgrade over him, and who knows what impact that would have. Who cares if he comes out on passing downs? 3rd and long sounds nice.

I'm with you.  We live in an area of specialists who don't contribute on all 3 downs.  If a guy is a player he's a player.  To your point I'd rather have a solid contributor 2/3rds of the time vs. some scrub.
