Cowboys Needs from https://sports.yahoo.com/2018-nfl-team-needs-041500466--spt.html

Defense: All three levels of Dallas’ defense need upgrading. Top pass rusher DeMarcus Lawrence and MLB Anthony Hitchens’ contracts are up, and the Cowboys will likely pursue veteran competition for a youthful secondary. 2017 first-round DE Taco Charlton was a predictable first-year disappointment.

Wide Receiver: As soon as Ezekiel Elliott’s suspension kicked in, Dallas’ passing-game limitations were exposed, and they were exacerbated without elite offensive line play. Cowboys pass catchers’ inability to get open still bears the brunt of the blame. Dez Bryant and Jason Witten are far cries from the players they once were, and Cole Beasley hasn’t been right since tearing his hamstring in November of 2016. Just-A-Guy Terrance Williams pops up for a productive game once every two years.

Offensive Guard: In addition to a far-tougher schedule, the Cowboys’ biggest challenge was overcoming an offensive line that lost two starters in LG Ronald Leary (Broncos) and RT Doug Free (retirement). The evaporation of Dallas’ O-Line depth was exposed when LT Tyron Smith missed time. Even after La’el Collins flopped in 2017, Collins will likely be given another year at right tackle. The Cowboys’ biggest hole is left guard, where Jonathan Cooper is headed to free agency.

Results:-

1.Cleveland - Sam Darnold [QB] USC

2.NY Giants - Josh Rosen [QB] UCLA

3.Indianapolis - Bradley Chubb [DE] NC State

4.Cleveland(From Houston) - Saquon Barkley [RB] Penn St.

5.Denver - Quenton Nelson [OG] Notre Dame

Sucks for the Cowboys if the draft goes like this.

I was just thinking the opposite

Cowboys have alot of great directions here

I went Payne then Josh Jackson

getting stud 3 tech alongside Taco and Lawrence would be a major get

Josh Jackson as an outside corner would fill a big need. They can get a guard later in the 2nd or 3rd

The Cowboys already have David Irving at 3 tech and don't value 1 tech as a first round position.

Byron Jones is moving back to CB, so they are pretty deep there.

What they really need is a safety.

Seriously.

I went Sutton then McGlinchey. Think Courtland is what everyone wanted T-Wil to be.

McGlinchey, because he’s BPA at a position of need. The most talented offensive lineman. Price, Daniels and Hernandez are all reaches here. Should be able to transition to G seamlessly, can kick out to T if needed.

The last Notre Dame LT they drafted and moved inside seems to be doing fine.

The Cowboys aren't drafting a 1 tech at 19. Forget it. I voted for Landry first and Arden Key 2nd. Taco is still an unknown and couldn't beat out Tyrone Crawford(who is really a DT) for the starting Edge opposite Lawrence(who isn't on a long term contract currently). Then there is Randy Gregory who may never play again, and Tapper who still hasn't played. Lot's of questions at DE.

But honestly, Landry or Key is probably the BPA. I really value pass rushers though.

What about Irving?

Up to this point, the Cowboys have almost exclusively used him at 3 tech outside of one game against Tampa bay two years ago.

I'd give him a chance at strong side DE and move Lawrence to the blindside but the Cowboys seem hell bent on starting Tyrone Crawford (who is built like a 3-4 DE) on the blind side with Lawrence on the left. Irving, when healthy and not suspended, has been our 3 tech.

Last year when the smoke cleared our fully healthy starting line was:

LE: Lawrence

3T: Irving

1T: Richard Ash

RE: Tyrone Crawford

To me, that looks like you need an upgrade at the edge spot opposite Lawrence and an upgrade at 1TECH. The owner of the team said they won't draft a 1Tech high, but said that defensive line was probably the focus. So that tells me an edge rusher. BUT they have been publicly critical of Irving and may not see him as a long term solution at 3T. Which makes a guy like Hurst an okay choice as he is to small for the 1 tech but could be a nice 3. I think Payne is completely off the table because he is a pure 1.

I understand that you may want to wait on Taco to develop before you throw another late 1st rounder at the spot, but you can never have to many pass rushers, and it's nice to rotate them to keep them fresh.

A rotation of:

LE: Lawrence\Tapper

RE: Landry\Taco

Sounds pretty good. Sounds better than relying on Taco completely for arguably the 2nd most important role on the team: rushing the passer. And outside Taco, Crawford isn't a pass rusher. Why he is on the edge and Irving in the middle we may never know. But I guess Rod Marinelli is smarter than me
