If Russell Wilson was of prototypical height, where would he have been taken?

Top 10 probably. But Miami's OC was Tanney's coach, so Miami still probably takes Tannehill. Maybe RW dropped to 22 where the Browns took the next QB Weeden. Maybe someone trades up.

To think how much 2 or 3 inches would change the Browns’ outlook.

Just for some reference, here was his NFL.com draft profile at the time:

Quote

Wilson is this year's big-time question mark at quarterback. Unlike those who have held this title in the past, Wilson is a stellar passer who shows arm strength and accuracy when he is able to deliver the ball without a hitch. A transfer from North Carolina St. over the summer, he has outstanding football intelligence as he picked up the Wisconsin offense in a short time and was the opening-day starter. However, at his height teams will have concerns whether or not he can see to make the throws at the next level. He is a mechanical mover who has strong technique and leadership qualities. If Wilson were three inches taller there would be debate at the top of the draft as to where he fits in, but look for teams to take a flier on him in late rounds to see if he can develop and outplay his size.

Wilson was a fantastic college quarterback. He has a good arm, makes big plays with his feet and comes through in the clutch. Plus, Wilson is difficult for defenses to defend, and he can put up points on the scoreboard. The reason why his draft ranking is this low is his height.

It was pretty consensus that height was the problem. It was just seen as that drastic of a problem. He'd have had a strong argument to be the 3rd QB off the board. And only because the top 2 were that good.

I think he would have easily been the 3rd QB off the board, maybe even ahead of RGIII if Skins wanted a pro ready QB. Height really was the only thing keeping Wilson from being taken near the top of the draft. I'm not even sure what his knocks would be after his senior year at Wisconsin.

This. Both he and RGIII were top shelf athletes, RGIII being a bit more explosive. But when it came to a pro system and quality passing Wilson was IMO clearly better. He was just short.

The other thing I wonder about was personalities. Wilson isn't a jerk, but RGIII was a celebrity and owned the interviews from what I remember. Maybe that would sway a team, but I still think Shanahan would take Wilson at 6'4" over RGIII. He wanted Jay Cutler in DEN, who isn't anywhere near as bad as he has been demonized by fans, but is clearly not someone that becomes the focal point of a room.

So everyone forgot that Russell Wilson didn't break 60% or have a particularly special college resume until his 5th year (redshirt senior) season. And that he had to transfer to play that year? His last year was excellent, but many(most?) elite QB prospects would have already left college 2 years before he did. Why did his coach at NC State choose to go with Mike Glennon over bringing Wilson back? There are differing stories about it, but it is definitely a question mark, if you are looking at him from the POV of the draft lead up.

It's crazy to think about with the information we have now, but who knows if he would have even been drafted if he didn't end up in the right situation with Wisconsin in 2011.

I get what you're saying, but he also had a ridonlukous 17:1 TD:INT ratio his freshman season, and followed that up with a 3,000 31:11 sophomore season. There was regression in that Junior season, which led to the eventual benching - but Wilson had some pretty good numbers his first two seasons, so he was going to get a shot.
