A look at the safety situation for the teams in Derwin James draft range and why he could fall to us at pick #16-

6. NYJ- Safety Tandem (Jamal Adams+Marcus Maye)

7. TB-

8. CHI- Safety Tandem (Adrian Amos+Eddie Jackson)

9. SF- Safety Tandem (Jimmie Ward+Jaquiski Tartt+Adrian Colbert)

10. OAK- Safety Tandem (Karl Joseph+Obi Melinfonwu)

11. MIA- Safety Tandem (Reshad Jones+TJ Macdonald)

12. CIN- Safety Tandem, passed on Malik Hooker last year. (George Iloka+Shawn Williams+)

13. WAS- Safety Tandem (DJ Swearinger+Montae Nicholson)

14. GB- * Two Safeties (HaHa Clinton-Dix+Josh Jones)

15. ARI- Safety Tandem (Tyrann Mathieu+Budda Baker+Antoine Bethea)

*The Packers have HaHa who is 1st round pick and Josh Jones who was a 2nd round pick last year but they often roll with three safety looks where Jones is more of a hybrid linebacker. With Morgan Burnett as good as gone in FA for them, they will have a hole at SS thus no true tandem.

Need causes bleed-

Derwin James is a top 10 player in the draft but there isn't a good pairing of need to value for him until really Green Bay at #14. Top 5 is out of the question, and the only danger spot in the top 10 is Tampa Bay. He is a Florida State guy and he could go there but if the board falls like this-

1. Cleveland- Sam Darnold QB USC

-Lock

2. New York Giants- Saquon Barkley HB Penn State

-Lock

3. Trade: Denver Broncos- Josh Rosen QB UCLA

- Near Lock. This trade and pick is super likely. The Colts only have to drop 2 spots and know Denver is trading up to secure their QBOTF.

4. Trade: New York Jets- Baker Mayfield QB Oklahoma

- Near Lock. Again, it just makes sense. Cleveland only has to drop 2 spots and know the Jet's intent. The Jets will value Baker over Josh Allen imo, and he fits in perfectly with the locker room they're trying to build.

5. Indianapolis Colts- Bradley Chubb DE NCSU

-Near Lock. My only question would be if they went Quenton Nelson over him, but this is easy work. Chubb is the consensus top DE in the draft and they're starved for pass rush. To get him after a trade down is a huge win for them.

6. Cleveland Browns- Minkah Fitzpatrick S/CB Alabama

- Near Lock. I think this pick will come down to Minkah or Ward.

That leaves Marcus Davenport, the draft's highest potential pass rusher, for a team that was second to last in sacks and in a division with Cam Newton, Matt Ryan, and Drew Brees. It also leaves Quenton Nelson who is an instant cure for their lack of movement in the running game and overall lack of quality on their line. Their GM is in a contract year I believe and not addressing their biggest need with a consensus top 10 pass rusher doesn't make sense. Consider Davenport to the Bucs a near lock.

After the Bucs the only threat is the Packers and they're the biggest one. It'll come down to Harold Landry and Derwin James for the Packers but with EDGE being their top priority and S being like their third biggest need, I feel comfortable with Landry as a possible lock to the Packers. They're also reportedly high on Jessie Bates S who could be had in the 2nd or 3rd.

I'd say it is very optimistic to have Ragnow last to the 3rd, no? now that Price is injured there are not many quality C options left and Ragnow had 1st round potential until his injury.

would love him in the 3rd though!

Very optimistic indeed. We'll see on the severity of Price's injury, hopefully it isn't too bad for his sake and ours.

I'll give it a go, once I get home from work. The thing is, these draft rankings are so skewed, which makes it "easy" to get great players lower in the draft.

Edit: This is assuming we go the sign Jimmy Graham, let Jensen go, no significant wide receiver added - route.

1. round: Orlando Brown, OT

Derwin James were still on the board, in the end, I would prefer we maximize our efforts to solidify that oline, instead of patching it together with veterans and players from the middle of the draft. If we want to make Joe Flacco better, this is where we help him the most plus we can boost our running game. Brown might not bench press that much, and he might sound doofey, but I believe he will be an unimpressive pick come draftday who will prove to be a great asset in the years to come with his power in the run game and an eclipse on the right side which takes ages to run around. Also, he can be a serviceable stand in LT, when Stanley misses the usual amount of games.

2. round. D.J. Moore, WR

Moore will be the most picked player to the Ravens by the Ravens fan base. I can get behind it, because I really like Moore as a player, but not in the 1. round. If we can get this Jarvis Landry type of player in the 2. round, we should be all over him. Young, hard working, local, good hands, great with the ball in his hands, tough, physical, falls forward. Much to like, not explosive and enough of an X-player to warrant that 1. round consideration at 16.

3. round. Frank Ragnow, OC

Can play all positions on the offensive line. Is a bigger center, apparently really intelligent and a good leader and lockerroom guy, also a big strong guy for the running game. Will he fall to the 3. round? He could due to his position and his 2017 injury. A ready made OC.

4. round. Nick Chubb, RB

Great fit to what we have. Could be an explosive player who still runs a bit different to what Collins does. We would get a great talent in the 4. round. Only thing I question is how he does in pass pro.

5. round. Equanimeous St. Brown, WR

Really interesting prospect. If we get the gadget Plaxico Burres type of receiver in the 5. round, we will get a complimentary piece to our offense, which we don't have. Too much double catching, but the upside by size and athleticism alone is there.

6. round. Nick Orr, DB

Bloodlines, and he actually looks good in the different role he plays at TCU. I think he could take on the do-it-all role from Lardarius Webb.

7. round. Azeem Victor, LB

I like players out of Washington, and I think Victor at least could be a psycho on special teams. His technique is all over the place, but when it comes together, he plays really well.

1: R1P16    MINKAH FITZPATRICK   ALABAMA
2: R2P20    WR MICHAEL GALLUP   COLORADO ST.
3: R3P19   JAMES DANIELS   IOWA
4: R4P18   WR D.J. MOORE   MARYLAND

6: R6P16   WR EQUANIMEOUS ST. BROWN   NOTRE DAME
7: R6P41   QB LUKE FALK   WASH. STATE
This one is a bit crazy in terms of player value. There's no way DJ Moore lasts until the 4th round, and probably no way Luke Falk lasts until the end of the 6th.
And here's an entire new offense draft:
16: R1P16   QB BAKER MAYFIELD   OKLAHOMA
52: R2P20   WR COURTLAND SUTTON   SMU
83: R3P19   FRANK RAGNOW    ARKANSAS
118: R4P18   WR MICHAEL GALLUP   COLORADO STATE
154: R5P17   RB BO SCARBROUGH   ALABAMA
190: R6P16   LB DORIAN ODANIEL   CLEMSON
215: R6P41   BRADLEY BOZEMAN   ALABAMA

First Post-Combine T.O.P (To our pick) mock here we go:

Key Offseason QB results-

Kirk Cousins- Vikings

A.J. McCarron- Browns

Nick Foles isn't traded

Tyrod Taylor isn't released

*Sam Bradford and Teddy Bs destinations and contracts aren't important as they'll take 2 year deals and won't influence the drafting of QBOTFs.

Trade Value Chart used: https://www.drafttek.com/NFL-Trade-Value-Chart.asp

2018 Draft

1. Cleveland Browns: Sam Darnold QB USC- Darnold's rare poise and profile for his age will get him chosen from among the contenders. Allen and Mayfield will feel like too much of the same from their past failures at the position and they'll question Rosen's character, it's always been Darnold's show from the moment he declared. Optimism will be a theme in the organization for the first time in a long while. He'll get a chance to develop behind A.J. McCarron.

2. Trade-(f'NYG) Cleveland Browns: Saquon Barkley HB Penn Sate- The Browns want to get the consensus best player in the draft two years in a row and trade up to do so. Barkley will pair with Darnold to give the Browns a future superstar backfield that will rebuild and rejuvenate their franchise.

Picks Traded: (New York Giants give pick #2 and Cleveland gives pick #4 + pick #33 + pick #65). Analysis: Some within the Brown's fan base will find this trade stupid and I'm not big on picking runners in the 1st round either, but Saquon is a superstar prospect that is clean as they come and an insane weapon for a starving franchise. I think Dorsey will make this trade even if he doesn't want too, there will be too much pressure on him to come away with Barkley and a QB.

3. Trade-(f'IND) Denver Broncos: Josh Rosen QB UCLA- This pick is one of the easiest for me. Josh Rosen is considered the best QB in the class by Denver, Elway won't mind his personality one bit. I consider this pick a lock if Cousins goes to Minnesota, and soon so will everyone else.

Picks Traded: (Indianapolis Colts give pick #3 and Denver gives pick #5 and #40). Analysis: Easy work, that's what this trade is. Denver moves up two spots and tosses pick #40 to the Colts for a perfect value trade. Denver still feel they can win now, with Cousins not an option they will aggressively pursue the consensus most NFL ready QB of the bunch who just so happens to be a natural fit and their favorite. They drafted a LT last year in the 1st and now they get a QB for him to protect, it's going to happen. For the Colts they're ecstatic, they pick up an extra early 2nd for moving down two spots. They know its for a QB and they don't need one, it's impossible for a blue chip prospect not to be there at pick #5. Great trade for both parties.

4. New York Giants (f'Cle): Quenton Nelson G Notre Dame- The offers will come oh the offers will come but flush with picks from their first trade down, the 3rd offered by the Jets won't be enough to get them to swap out and the Jets won't offer more. They know the Giants aren't in the QB market because they traded down to begin with and thus the Giants will be making a non QB selection, ensuring one of the QBs Allen or Mayfield will remain on the board at pick #6. They also know the Giants will want a blue chip player namely Nelson to fix their line and won't risk his acquisition by trading down beyond their own selection. The Giants do just that, stay put and add the future All-Pro to their line. An instant cure to pocket pressure and a weak rush offense, and a giant step towards rebuilding their front.

5. Trade-(f'IND) Buffalo Bills: Josh Allen QB Wyoming- The trades continue in a suspected fashion, in a class rich with QBs. Buffalo is in an interesting spot they have two firsts, two 2nds and a veteran QB under contract for at least another year. The perfect situation to acquire and sit a rookie QB, a rare occurrence in today's NFL, but even more so the perfect situation for Josh Allen. The Buffalo weather is nothing up against Allen's arm cannon, he is built for that climate, where as Mayfield's decent but not great arm strength could scare them off. Allen is a gamer, in a different mold than Baker but the fire is there. He wants to win and he wants to prove people wrong, he'll win their staff over and get them to believe. He can make plays with his arm or legs, and fans will be shocked the first time he stands in the pocket and delivers an accurate strike with velocity 25 yards down the field. He isn't Hackenberg and they'll see it. They'll view Allen as their own Favre who made a legend of himself in the cold of Green Bay and hope he does the same for them in Buffalo.

Picks Traded: (Indianapolis Colts give pick #5 and Buffalo gives pick #21, pick #22 and pick #53) Analysis: Another great deal for both parties, Indianapolis will accept because they have so many holes and question marks on the roster. It's unfortunate that they'll miss out on a blue chip player but they can make up for it with the sheer volume of impact this class will bring to their team. The Bills do as they should get a QBOTF and lucky for them they get the one with the highest potential, their trade down from last year pays dividends. They also keep their 2nd they received for Sammy Watkins, so they can still add another high round player.

6. New York Jets: Baker Mayfield QB Oklahoma-  Last year the Franchise that feels like they always have something to prove, in their state, in their division, took Jamal Adams to change their locker room and culture and so far he has. Well enter the little leader Baker Mayfield, he'll transform their trajectory on offense and rally that unit around himself just as Jamal did on his side. His off field intrigue will need to be hammered out and some of the Ohio State players on the team like Darron Lee might not be a fan initially but winning is valued above all else and to that end they'll view him as a perfect pick. This one just makes since, similar to the Rosen pick, and as a fan of football it will be great to see.

7. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Bradley Chubb DE NCSU- Teams without pass rush, need to draft players that rush the passer, and that's what Bradley Chubb is. The consensus top EDGE player in the draft falls to pick #7 with a QB heavy top 6. Chubb is relentless when hunting QBs and isn't a liability against the run, the disappointing 3-cone time won't scare them away and they'll look to his other athletic testing to help that process. The in state monster that is Derwin James is hard to pass up, but not getting Cam Newton, Matt Ryan, and Drew Brees to the ground has cost them too many wins in the past and they opt to bolster their pass rush.

8. Chicago Bears: Marcus Davenport OLB UTSA- The Bears of old were so fearsome they became known as the "Monsters of the Midway". Well that's what Davenport is, a complete monster who plays with violence on every snap. This a good corner class, they've made it clear they will pursue multiple receivers in FA, it makes sense to improve their pass rush with Davenport who has fallen to them. He'll form a pass rushing tandem with Leonard Floyd and thrive in Fangio's system. Mathis and Freeney served a younger Manning well and this duo will help Trubisky's offense get on the field more often. A great pick.

9. San Fransisco 49ers: Denzel Ward CB Ohio State- The 49ers need pass rush and high level corners if they want to be a contender in the playoffs, with all the best value EDGE players gone they turn to the CB position and the blue chipper Denzel Ward is just sitting there waiting for them. They're set at safety, have young pieces at linebacker and on the defensive line, so in adding Ward they have high level pieces all over the defense. Injecting the young lock down into the team will also help their pass rush and begin to give the team an identity.

10. Oakland Raiders: Roquan Smith LB Georgia- Gruden's imprint will be on this pick, and Roquan just makes too much sense, he's everything Gruden loves. Hard nosed, hard working, intelligent, mistake free, instinct rich, a leader. If he's there and the Raiders don't pick him I'll be shocked. Their team saw what getting even half way decent play from a LB can bring to a defense with Bowman and will draft Roquan to bring it to the next level. He'll lead their defense into the desert of Nevada and thrive, he'll hold that team and it's players accountable and keep their head on straight in an area where that can go off the rails. Bank on it.

11. Miami Dolphins: Tremaine Edmunds LB Virginia Tech- The Dolpins need help at linebacker and for their pass rush. Tremaine Edmunds, son of Ferrell Edmunds an All-Pro and Pro Bowl TE for the Dolphins, can do both. He can play any LB position and offers upside as a pass rusher in a variety of ways. Adding this young phenom to their defense will leave them with little if any true holes on it and give them an identity. His impressive range will go a long way towards shutting down New England's pass catching backs.

12. Cincinnati Bengals: Connor Williams OT Texas- Orlando Brown removed himself from the discussion and the Bengals are hamstrung for a tackle, enter Connor Williams. Ironically another tackle of partial Mexican descent, the Bengals could only hope he replicates the success of HOFer Anthony Muñoz. He's young and just his tape from two years ago would keep him out of their range, firmly in the top 10, but with a down year due to injuries he slips a bit. He showed at the combine the type of athlete he is and at 20 years of age he can only get better. They've neglected or missed on the offensive line too much and now they must make amends. They saw what not taking Ryan Ramscyk and selecting John Ross did for their offense and for the Saints, this year will be different. Andy Dalton will be thankful and so will their running backs.

13. Washington Redskins: Da'Ron Payne DT Alabama- This is what the combine can change, before this was a no brainer spot for Vita Vea but Payne's performance at the combine showed why he's the superior prospect. More than two years younger he offers the vastly superior upside as a player while also bringing the same strengths to the table. Washington ranked last in run defense, they need prospects who can stuff/stop the run. Payne does that and offers big time upside as a disruptive force that can effect the pocket and passer. The took Jonathan Allen in the 1st last year another Alabama DI and now they form a tandem with Allen as the mentor that will offer high level play for years.

14. Green Bay Packers: Minkah Fitzpatrick CB/S Alabama- This is a good class for corners and safeties, it isn't a good class for EDGE players and even with Minkah and Derwin's high ranking in the class I was tempted to give them Harold Landry who has a real shot at the top 15 after his combine performance. I opted not to simply because Minkah helps fill two needs for the team as a corner and safety, that versatility would serve them well. He'll form an Alabama tandem with Haha for years to come and Josh Jones projects as a nitro linebacker for them, a strong group.

15. Arizona Cardinals: Lamar Jackson QB Louisville- Arizona sits tight, doesn't panic, and still gets the last of the top end QB prospects. They'll most likely acquire a low end veteran QB on a two year as well, and that QB may give Lamar a cushion as he comes into the league. The effects of Arizona's poor offensive line are lessened with Lamar Jackson's rare elusiveness and David Johnson's strong running can take pressure off of him. Top rushing team in the league, book it now. Jackson not partaking in the drills at the combine actually hurt him imo, when just looked at as a thrower he isn't special, but after his pro day teams will have major numbers to point to in their draft room and will say, "that's our guy".

16. Baltimore Ravens: ? -

Super realistic scenario where Derwin James WILB/SS Florida State, Calvin Ridley WR Alabama, and DJ Moore WR Maryland are all left on the board for us to pick. Thoughts?

I don’t see 5 QBs going in the first 15 picks. Don’t see the Giants passing up on Saquon Barkley in that New York market. And even if the trade was enough to do it, I definitely don’t see them going with an OG that high. I could easily see the Giants drafting Josh Allen there. Develop him behind Eli for a couple seasons.

I'd take a QB if I were them, but none of their hardcore fans think it's likely. Saquon makes a ton of since for them, and it would create a nucleus of skill position players that is just insane, Engram, OBJ, Barkely, SS. I just think Cleveland is going to come hardcore after that 2nd pick and the Giants will eventually relent, "An offer they can't refuse". Quenton Nelson is a consensus top 5 player in this draft and they need OL bad, why wouldn't they take him? His floor is the Bears or 49ers. 3 lower rated QBs went in the top 15 last year, why wouldn't this group naturally top that number? Darnold to Cleveland is a natural assumption, Denver is in love with Rosen, Mayfield isn't getting out of the top 15 by hook or crook, Allen is atop some people QB boards and only helped himself at the combine, and if a team that needs a QB has Lamar Jackson sitting in front of them why wouldn't they pick him?

i do believe the packers won't pass on Landry. their pass rush is atrocious, they can still chose from a plethora of talented cb's and safeties with their 2nd round pick.

pass rushers? probably not so much. means, it would be either Fitzpatrick or James for the Ravens which to me is an absolute realistical scenario right now.

That was my toughest pick I kept getting flashes of BJ Raji's Boston College to Packers connection and I can vividly picture Landry playing for them, it's such a great fit.

here i go:

1. Browns                           Saquon Barkley
With their plethora of draft picks, CLE can and should go BPA 1st overall.

2. Broncos                          Josh Rosen
Elway is not afraid to move picks to get his guys. I could see him favour Rosen over Darnold.

3. Cardinals                        Sam Darnold
GM Keim stated to be aggressive in search of their QBOTF, here they go.

4. Browns                           Josh Allen
QBOTF? I dunno, but obviously hey will pick one early. If anything, has the arm to play outside.

5. Giants                             Quenton Nelson
BPA, Gettleman values the trenches and it fits a need, they need to protect Manning for his last hurrah.

6. Jets                                   Bradley Chubb
BPA and fits a need, i believe they'll trust the process and build a strong core until they finally get their QB situation settled.

7. Buccaneers                   Harold Landry
Bucs will go D with their first pick and now have somebody opposite Spence.

8. Bears                               Denzel Ward
Who knows if Fuller leaves in FA, even if not, they need talent at CB and the value for a wideout is not there.

9. 49ers                               Derwin James
What will become of R. Foster? Do they have any decent DBs? James could be used in multiple roles which will make him a premium pick for the 9ers.

10. Raiders                         Roquan Smith
Bowman, even if 29y old only, is on his last legs. They need a LB.

11. Bengals                        Tremaine Edmunds
Bold move? Maybe not so much, they need speed and someone reliable next to Mr-walking-suspension (you know who).

12. Dolphins                      Baker Mayfield
They can sit him and let the Tannehill situation play out.

13. Redskins                      Vita Vea
Jonathan Allen needs help to be effective.

14. Packers                        Marcus Davenport
DB or EDGE? Davenport it is, i don't see many starting caliber rushers available at their 2nd round pick and the window for a SB run is slowly closing.

15. Colts                              Connor Williams
Simple. Protect your 140m $ investment.

16. Ravens                         Minkah Fitzpatrick
Cause he from Bama, aight?
IF available at this spot, too much of value not to pick.
Successor to Weddle, possible replacement for Carr if cap space needed.
Keep the secondary a strength and give your young rushers help while grooming them.
