Free Agents

WR Allen Robinson [Jaguars] 5 years 70 million/32 guaranteed

Obviously there is a health risk to signing Robinson, but there are not perfect options in free agency and the Bears need to upgrade the position. Robinson is the closest thing in the market to a #1 WR and his 2015 season is even more remarkable when you consider that Blake Bortles was throwing the ball. Robinson has the size that is a threat to everyone on the outside and has produced while never playing with an accurate QB. Reasons I think Robinson could happen, Adrian Amos is a close friend, Charles London was the recruiting coordinator at Penn St when he was recruited, and he would be moving closer to his home town in Detroit.

WR Albert Wilson [Kansas City] 4 years 28 million/14 guaranteed

There was a pretty strong connection between Wilson and the Bears at the combine and he makes a ton of sense to add as the slot guy and he would bring an element of speed to the offense that has been missing. Wilson is coming off a dynamic year, considering his number of targets, and he knows the offense, which can be a benefit to everyone learning the offense. Wilson's ability to move outside will also allow Meredith to be brought into the slot where he thrived in his breakout 2016 campaign.

OG Zach Fulton [Kansas City] 4 years 24 million/10 guaranteed

There are so many reasons that Fulton makes sense in Chicago. He has played for Matt Nagy for a his entire career. He was coached by Harry Hiestand in college. He is from Chicago and would be coming home. The Bears need a LG and they need someone who can play C in a pinch and Fulton can do those things. Fulton is not a star, but he is a solid starter at multiple positions and gives the Bears versatility inside.

QB Chase Daniel [New Orleans] 2 years 9 million/4 guaranteed

The rumour circulating is that the Bears will make a run at Chase Daniel to be the primary backup to Trubisky. This makes sense as he knows the system and seems like a more capable player than Sanchez at this point in his career. His knowledge of the system and the terminology will be useful in the implementation of the offense. I would also bring Sanchez back as the #3 as he and Trubisky seems to have a connection with him.

S Rafeal Bush [New Orleans] 2 years 5 million/1.5 guaranteed

The Bears can cut Quentin Demps and bring in another veteran safety and save come cash. Buish is younger and can fill the role of veteran in the safety room while starting in a pinch and adding to the special teams. Bush has experience with Pace from New Orleans and has been a consistent player for the Saints.

OLB Aaron Lynch [San Francisco] 2 years 4 million/1 guaranteed [1 SB]

The Bears need to add some bodies to the OLB spot, the real improvement will have to come from the draft. Lynch has the physical tools to be a starting OLB and he showed it his first couple of seasons in the NFL, but in the last 2 years he has disappeared off the map. Lynch is a Fangio reclamation project to see if he can get something from him. At 25 Lynch is young enough that a career resurgence cannot be totally ruled out.

K Cody Parkey [Miami] 4 years 12 million/4 guaranteed

The Dolphins screwed themselves financially with the Landry tag and the Bears can use it to pick off their kicker. At 25 with a 90% field goal and point after percentage he is the ideal player to fill the massive crater that is the Bears kicker spot since Robbie left. With a developing offense the last thing you need is an inconsistent kicker who costs you points and doesn't end drives with something positive. I am changing this from Gano because rumors is he may be tagged.

Draft

1[8] LB Tremaine Edmunds [Virginia Tech] 6'5" 253lbs, 34.5" arms, 4.53[40], 19 reps, 9'9" broad

Athletic, big, versatile, and a ton of upside, all things that we know that Ryan Pace loves. Edmunds to me is more of a defensive weapon than any specific position. Edmunds can play off the ball LB where his size and speed he is a force against the run making a number of splash plays in the run game at VT. Edmunds size is an issue in the passing game as he takes up a ton of space in zone and can run with most TEs without giving up a size mismatch. As a pass rusher he has the size, length, and speed to threaten the edge and has flashed as an interior pass rusher. In this plan you hand Fangio Edmunds and let him unleash him all over the defense. Playing ILB on early downs, off the edge-blitzing from the inside-covering TEs on passing downs.

2[39] OLB Lorenzo Carter [Georgia] 6'6" 250lbs, 34" arms, 4.5 [40], 36" vert, 10'10"broad

I have a dream of Aaron Rodgers looking across the line of scrimmage at nothing but 6'5"-6'6" super athletes and he has no idea who is pass rushing and who is dropping and there is fear and confusion. I have a dream that lesser QBs will have no idea what is happening on defense because of the versatility and athletic ability of the 2nd level defenders on the Bears defense. Carter is a 2nd Leonard Floyd, he is a super athlete with great size and length that needs to be coached. Carter has every physical tool that Pace values as a pass rusher and could come in and rush the passer early in his career. His athletic ability will allow Fangio to drop him and rush Floyd more, which brings even more confusion to the defense on passing downs.

4. OT Brandon Parker [NC A&T] 6'7" 314lb, 35" arms, 5.4 [40], 28.5" vert, 9'9" broad

With the amount of time that the Bears spent at NC A&T they should know Parker really well and he fits nicely with what they need. They need a swing OT, that has starter upside, and that can play both LT and RT. Parker has the size, length, and athletic ability to play LT and I thought he had a very solid showing at the Senior Bowl playing up in competition. Parker should also be able to come in and compete with Massie and at least give the Bears another option at OT.

4. NT Justin Jones [NC State] 6'2" 315lbs.

The Bears need to find a backup NT that can play and keep Goldman and Hicks fresh. Jones is a powerful plugger in the middle who still offers a little pass rush. I have moved Jones up after a very good Senior Bowl where he showed more pass rush than I was expecting. Jones is so strong in the upper body that he can jar OLmen and control the line. He has the power and base to be a top level NFL run defender and would allow the Bears to save Goldman and Hicks for pass rush situations or key downs in the game. This should also help to keep Goldman healthier as he won't be taking as many double teams every game.

5. CB Christian Campbell [Penn St] 6'1" 194lbs, 14 reps

By bringing back Prince and Fuller the Bears have their #1 and #2, but they need to add someone who can be a backup on the outside as we know that Callahan and Leblanc are not really built for extended periods outside. Campbell had a nice Senior Bowl and showed that he can play man against some good WRs. Campbell has the size and length that Fangiuo prefers and with Donatell coaching him he could turn into something. Fangio and Donatell had a lot of success in SF with late round and UDFA DBs and hopefully Campbell can contribute later in his rookie year.

6. WR Jester Weah [Pitt] 6'2" 205lbs, 4.43 [40], 38" vert, 19'9" broad

Good size and the explosive athletic numbers that the Chiefs seem to like in the draft, Weah gets a year as a deep backup to develop and see if he can at a minimum be a rotational deep threat that can be used to threaten the defense deep a couple times a game. The Bears have fixed the starting WR core with a massive free agent spend, so they can wait on WR, but they need depth that has NFL athletic ability and that is not Tanner Gentry.

7. RB Darrell Williams [LSU] 6' 229lbs, 4.72 [40], 22 reps, 32" vert, 9'1" broad

Williams is not fast, but he is a big bruising back that can take on some of the short yardage and pounding that Howard takes. Williams is also surprisingly solid catching the ball for a big back, so he does add some value in the passing game. If Howard is injured the Bears do not have anyone who can step in and take the pounding that he does, by adding Williams you have an option to go to if Howard is injured.
