Bears Apply Transition Tag to Kyle Fuller

Yeah somebody is being a real idiot with that comment and i dont think it was rappaport.  I suppose if Kevin White turns into a 1000 yd wr this year they will have bungled his situation by not exercising the 5th year there either.  Nobody could look at Fullers first 3 years and say that he deserved the raise and guaranteed money from the 5th year.

I like this move in that it if Fuller doesn't end up a signing a multi year deal and plays under the 1 year tender then it will keep him just as motivated as he was last year to get that big money deal. That usually brings the best out of guys. Not saying Fuller doesn't have the passion but you always have to be a little leery of guys who play their best ball in a contract year.

Look at the last sentence. Either Rap is talking out of both sides of his mouth about this thing or someone at Rotoworld is attributing an unveiled shot at the Bears to him.

Usually the source on Rotoworld applies only to the news, and not the spin. In this case, simply Rapaport reporting transition tag had been placed.

Seems to be a lot of concern about the Bears matching another team’s offer. If another team is dumb enough to pay Fuller a ridiculous amount, then let them. The Bears need to pay a competitive amount, not a stupid amount.

Considering the Bears’ cap situation I’m not sure other teams will offer him at all considering they’d likely assume a match anyway. Offering Fuller probably means they’re missing out on someone else, and 0-2 is a bad look for another front office.

Thats kinda what im wondering as well az.  Why put the effort into negotiation if you know the Bears are very likely to match the offer.

Only if they have the same poaitional needs. If they are going to also be pushing hard for a few WRs and EDGE for example, they may want to try and heavily front load the deal to decrease potential cap for other FAs.

Still with as much as we have, to do that would likely have to be a stupid deal that they wouldn't want to risk themselves.

The browns are the only team who could realistically do that to us and i dont think Fuller wants to play in cleveland, anybody else would be playing a dangerous game with the cap flexibility the Bears have.

It is not even the flexibility they have this season. They have 140 million in cap space next season and they do not have to pay a QB till 2022.

Fuller would have to want to leave the Bears for that to even make sense.

It sounds like a long term deal may be imminent, but the Bears just wanted an insurance policy

Pretty late to talk about at this point, but how about Greg Rosenthal saying it was a “huge misstep” for the Bears to not pick up Fuller’s fifth year option?

The NFL national media continues to prove themselves to be tremendously stupid. In the past few years alone:

*Having zero understanding of the Mike Glennon contract structure.

*Not believing that John Fox was on the hot seat going into 2017.

*Believing Marc Trestman deserved one more year.

Fuller had an encouraging rookie season, up and down 2nd season, then missed his entire 3rd season after having a routine knee scope that normally takes 8 weeks to come back from. It was completely understandable for fuller to not have his 5th year picked up. he essentially played on a prove it deal, played well, and made a few more million than he would have.
