Shift in offensive strategy?

the rules don't favor the cornerbacks. as long as they don't change it will be a pass happy league.

80s and 90s was awesome football, if you like physical play, and great running backs. it was run and stop the run, and a balanced run/pass team with a major run stopping defense was supreme in the league.

now it's a pinball league, and everybody loves it. twenty points used to mean something.

Passing has always been superior.

run heavy teams get no where. Walter Payton only got a SB when the Bears did everything else right. E. Smith, same reason.

Eric Dickerson,OJ,Sanders,AP etc. Great for highlights but useless otherwise for the ultimate goal

Rbs will never be the same. The years of one RB amassing a crazy amount of yards will become fewer and farther between. Use of a committee is a smarter, cheaper, and more reliable way to go. Also with protecting the QB it is more important for a RB to be a decent blocker than to average over 4.5 YPC. Give every team 3 Isiah Crowells over 1 big contract and 2 crappy Rbs.

Basically this. There was an article about this about a decade ago (might have been longer) that showed that the key to winning superbowls, going way back, was always superiority in the passing game, either in passing offense, passing defense, or both. The running game wasn't that predictive either way.  It just wasn't until the rule changes where 90% of the old school coaches finally stopped going run heavy or 50/50 and started passing more. I'm convince that a lot of Andy Reids successes, especially in Philly, came as a result of being so pass happy. Teams are now just finally throwing it about as much as they always should have.
