Jets fans are too much on here. Complete panic, fire everybody, then "YESSSSS AVERY WILLIAMSON, GREAT PLAYER!"

Lol.

Lol who said he was a great player?!

Your right though, armed with over $90m Macc has signed a 3-4 ILB who was offered $3m a year from his current team. Give that man an extension!!

While all the other teams are too busy signing offensive lineman, quarterbacks who don’t have bus passes and top of the market pass catches we spend our money on a run stuffing linebacker.

Not a bad signing of course but let’s not get carried away here, Macc has missed out on the big fish so don’t be fooled if we get a few ‘good signings’ later on in free agency. After all we did have by far the most money to spend.

We just need talent and have money. So most of us don’t care about the money he’d command.

Yeah, that's not to say it's a terrible deal if it's in the $7-9 million per boat, just that the reported $3 million a year offer from the Titans seemed like a gigantic low ball to most Titans fans and was pretty quickly shot down by local guys, so I wouldn't necessarily be expecting numbers near that range.

I can definitely relate to not caring about the money. Priority should always be adding talent, contracts rarely end up doing too much damage to a franchise, particularly mid-level ones like Williamson's likely will be.

One of the best run stuffing ILBs in football over the last few years, if not the best. Decent enough at blitzing I suppose. Dude can't cover to save his life though, but if you have an ILB who can handle most of that then you should be ok.

Great so in a passing league we get a linebacker who ‘can’t cover to save his life’ this will be fun watching the Patriots play no huddle against us lol.

Yeah, that Patriots matchup is a bad one for him. We got torched by running backs and tight ends in general, but particularly when he was on the field. He can be hidden on passing downs, but you're definitely better off finding someone that can sub in for him, which is what we did with Jayon Brown this past year and was the main reason Avery dropped from playing 83% of our snaps in 2016 to 60% in 2017.

Yeah. If Avery played in like the 60s/70s/80s type of football dude would probably be a perennial all-pro lol, but sadly he plays in this pass happy league of today. He's a great guy, solid overall player despite the limitations, so I wouldn't be too upset about it. Just gotta use him properly.

Well we have our 1st Roundee from a couple years ago in Lee that’s “supposed” to be good in coverage. He actually has all the tools to be good, just hasn’t clicked yet and might never click for all we know. But we do have that speed ILB to play next to him. It’s just if he will ever become what he’s supposed to be. Williamson is perfect for what we need opposite him.

We had a problem for years covering tight ends and shifty running backs so we feel the pain but I think with better safety play (our rookies look good) that would maybe help Williamson’s inability to cover.

The bread and butter for any inside linebacker is to stop the run and with that we can hopefully allow Darron Lee our first round pick from a couple of years ago to fly around the ball and be the ‘playmaker’. Sounds easy in practice but much harder in reality lol.
