Moving him inside to guard would be a disaster. His deficiencies would be highlighted there. He's got the slowest, weakest hands I've ever seen from a man his size. Some of the best tackles in football are still Whitworth, Staley and Joe Thomas. Whitworth is 36, Staley and Thomas will be 34 this year. I wouldn't worry too much about the age factor at this point. Even if Solder were to underwhelm, I doubt he'd be anywhere nearly as bad. I think it's a good deal for the Giants - you almost have to "overpay" for OL nowadays. It just shows you how valuable they are when one of the most lax GMs when it comes to FA has been willing to spend big bucks in back-to-back years on them is all I was saying.
