Reshad Jones restructures

So we save $6.6m this year but those 'savings' will show up on the 2019-2021 cap. It also affects the 'dead money' that Miami would take on if they cut Jones before his contract is up.

Before the restructure, his cap hits:

2019 - $14.96m
2020 - $13.43m
2021 - $12.34m

So after this season Jones cap hit will likely be $15m+ annually for three seasons.

Sigh.  I thought we were past this after the Suh shenanigans.

We're purging the roster for a re-vamp.. so we can be cap-healthy in the future.. but we're going to create cap space now and kick the can down the road again..

In all fairness this won't have the same massive effect as the Suh restructure. BUT you are absolutely right, this is the type of GM/FO behavior I'd like to see left behind.

FFS.  Now we did it with Tannehill as well.  That pretty much locks him in as the starter for the next 3 years.

You beat me.

Dolphins turned $16.7M of Tannehill's 2018 salary and converted it into a signing bonus.

Spotrac already updated Tannehill's contract (that was fast..): http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/miami-dolphins/ryan-tannehill-9818/

Cap hits:

2018: $8.68M (can't be cut to save money)
2019: $26.61M (can be cut to save $13M)
2020: $25.08M (can be cut to save $19M)
2021: free agent

I wouldn't say it "locks him in" except for 2018. Definitely makes him harder to cut in 2019 though.

I don’t mind the look of that as much tbh, he is only around in 2020 if he deserves to be.

I mean im fine with it if we have a plan if we are restructuring him without going after a couple more then why even bother releasing Suh?

James is a strange one to me.

At least it’s eventful being a dolphins fan.

$13 million in dead money seems pretty dang close to a lock for 2019 as well.  That dead money is admittedly much less in 2020 than I thought it would be.
