jetskid007
Quote 3. Jets’ flight plan. The Jets absolutely wanted Cousins, and probably worse than anyone else did. But if you go back a few months, you’ll see that he wasn’t initially Plan A for the team. A few months back, the idea for 2017 was to strip down the team, rely on young guys, and get a Top 2 or 3 pick to spend on a quarterback. And this wasn’t just on paper, either. At the urging of ownership, the Jets’ personnel department sunk an absolute ton of resources into kicking the tires on all the college quarterbacks last fall. New York had a scout at just about every UCLA, USC, Wyoming, Oklahoma and Louisville game in 2017, and did all the background you can imagine on Josh Rosen, Sam Darnold, Josh Allen, Baker Mayfield and Lamar Jackson. So what changed? Two things. First, the Jets’ young core, particularly on defense, got feisty early, and a three-game winning at the September/October turn doomed the idea that the team would be able to keep up with the likes of Cleveland and the Giants in the race for the first pick. Second, quarterbacks coach Jeremy Bates impressed enough to earn a promotion to coordinator just as a signal-caller proven in his system, Cousins, was set to come free. Remember, Bates is a disciple of Mike Shanahan, just as Cousins and his two favorite play-callers (Kyle Shanahan and Sean McVay) are. So add the early-season surge to Bates’ rise, and you had a team with the sixth pick that could try and get a proven quarterback, which would free it up to use its draft capital to build on last year’s transformational offseason. That’s how they drew it up, anyway. Now? Well, they move forward with the information they need—and I expect we’ll see Top 30 visits and on-campus workouts with the top quarterbacks here, too—on the quarterbacks, and less flexibility with their picks, particularly if they need to trade up. It’s not ideal, and it didn’t feel good for anyone there this week. But with Josh McCown and Teddy Bridgewater in the fold as “for now” answers, they can move forward with what they’d set out to do in the first place, and that’s take one high in April. jetskid007
Probably could've posted this in another thread, but figured we can use this for QB discussion only. I'm not shocked either, but what I'm gathering here is that there still is pressure to get a QB. I think the best course of action is to figure out who your top QBs are and go get them. Whether or not we will - or are able to - is TBD.
Bobby816
Macc At Rosen’s pro day. And as it stands now... he’s who I want at 6.

Bobby816
My predictions are in some sort of way Darnold and Barkley go 1 and 2. Doesn’t really matter to us who gets who. At 3 buffalo trades uo and gets Allen hopefully. They can afford the risk with the insurance of McCarron now. While I’m not a huge Allen fan, he probably has the most upside of any of the QB prospects. Browns than choose one of Nelson, Chubb, Ward or Fitzpatrick at 4. Denver takes Mayfield. Having Rosen fall to us and we keep all of our valuable picks and still get arguably the best QB in the draft.
JetsandI
Ah.. no wonder Jets did not check out any "lesser" qbs. They are broke. I can't imagine Jets spent a lot of money traveling around and could not land one of those qbs. To be clarified, Allen and Jackson are excluded. Bianconero
I have no clue if this has any truth at all to it but Jets Twitter is talking about it For discussions sake I would not be happy with this move unless he falls to 37.

I want to get greedy and keep our picks but I also want to make sure we get our guy. My gut says Macc will only move up if he feels he is getting a deal otherwise he'll pick from who's left at 6. if we decide we don't want to trade up then we have to be alright with the absolute worst case scenario where all 4 are gone and we get one of Barkley or Chubb at 6. We will have a good idea come draft day though, I don't think the Colts move the pick until day of draft. If it goes: #1 Browns - QB #2 Giants - Barkley #3 The Colts will be able to get a nice haul for this pick Best case scenario is that they trade with us but could absolutely see them wanting as many picks as possible so Buffalo could be a good trade partner. #4 We need to pray that the Browns don't trade out of this pick #5 Broncos - QB #6 Jets - Whoever is left IMO if we can get up to 3 or 4 that should be the move, not landing a QB in the first is a complete failure. We may be able to get lucky that a team like the Colts or Browns don't want to trade out of the top 6 picks.
KimuraGod
I have a hard time seeing Rosen slipping to six so I would trade up personally if it didn’t involve next years first. When you look at it though at least three QBs will come off the board before we pick. Browns, Bills (in trade up) and Broncos I think will all go QB. I have a hard time thinking Rosen will be the fourth qb taken..

I don't care about the price, just get our guy. I think having 6 is an incredibly valuable pick for these top teams but here's my doomsday situation: Browns - QB Giants - QB Broncos trade with Colts - QB Browns - Barkley Colts trade with Bills - QB Jets miss out on all 4. If we get to Indy's pick at 3 and Barkley is one of the first 2 picks then I'd feel more comfortable. I'd probably offer one of our 2nd to the Browns in order to leapfrog the 5th pick so we can have more of a choice.

KingOfNewYork
I get the feeling picks 2, 3 and 4 will all be dealt. The top 4 picks could legitimately be Quarterbacks.
