Woz
The sudden shift in analysis on McClain and McGee in this thread, while incredibly late in coming, is appreciated. Some recognition of that shift (or acknowledging others who predicted it) would be advised/welcomed.

Maybe getting a couple conditional 7ths wouldn't be bad for a DT needy team. It's not just the guaranteed monies. McGee's cap hits (minus guaranteed monies, age at start of season in paretheses): 2018 (28) = $4.0M ($3.75M salary, $0.250M total active game roster bonus) 2019 (29) = $4.0M ($3.75M salary, $0.250M total active game roster bonus) 2020 (30) = $5.0M ($4.75M salary, $0.250M total active game roster bonus) 2021 (31) = $5.5M ($5.25M salary, $0.250M total active game roster bonus) all years have $0.150M de-escalator clause for missing workouts McClain's cap hits (minus guaranteed monies, age at start of season in paretheses): 2018 (30) = $3.44M ($3.25M salary, $0.188M total active game roster bonus (LTBE only for 12?)) [numbers don't add up due to rounding] 2019 (31) = $4.50M ($4.25M salary, $0.250M total active game roster bonus) 2020 (32) = $5.50M ($5.25M salary, $0.250M total active game roster bonus) McClain's 2018 salary is guaranteed for injury only, but usually those convert over to fully guaranteed at some point. I don't know if that deadline has happened yet or not. So, do you think any other team wants to take on those contracts, even without the guarantees in place? Considering the contracts that players are getting now, sure. Neither are "old" and the values of the contracts don't appear to be "unreasonable" or "back-breaking". Neither are "old" and the values of the contracts don't appear to be "unreasonable" or "back-breaking". List of 28+ year old DL players who received LTDs so far (per Spotrac, age is as of right now): Star Lotulelei (28): 5y/$50M ($24.65M guaranteed, $18.5M guaranteed at signing) Adrian Clayborn (29): 2y/$12M Vinny Curry (29): 3y/$27M ($11.5M guaranteed, $6.5M guaranteed at signing) Mitch Unrein (30): 3y/$10.5M ($4M guaranteed, $3M guaranteed at signing) Chris Smith (30): 3y/$12.0M ($4.5M guaranteed, $4.5M guaranteed at signing) By comparison, McGee is 4y/$18.5M (remaining and minus guarantees) and McClain is essentially 3y/$13.5M. Would they be worth the 3rd and 4th highest contracts for 28+ year old players? List of 28+ year old DL players who received any 1 year deals so far: Muhammed Wilkerson (28): 1y/$5M Jarvis Jenkins (29): 1y/$0.88M Chris Baker (30): 1y/$3.00M Haloti Ngata (34): 1y/$3.00M Kyle Williams (34): 1y/$6.00M Julius Peppers (36): 1y/$5.00M Should their one year contract be worth more than Ngata and Baker? I all seriousness, cutting him this year doesn't save that money. Someone has to fill that depth position on the roster. I would have cut him but if the team stays healthy he likely won't be seeing the field anyways so I don't think it makes that big of a difference.
