I know you're discussing starters.  But, rotation of DLs is commonplace.  What about Graham vs Robison, etc.?  IF differences between the two sets of 4 starters are small individually and in total, does the quality of DL depth make a significant difference in the quality of the two DL units?

Probably depends on when we play them.  If it's early in the year we could probably get away without having as much depth, but we saw in the playoffs what a difference it made for Philadelphia to have that rotation on the D-line.

as good as our new Wall is, not one of them is better than their counterparts on the Purple People Eaters of the 70's.

  • Hunter < Carl Eller
  • Richardson < Alan Page
  • Linval < Doug Sutherland (or maybe not...)
  • Griffen < Jim Marshall

that's how damn good awesome that line was.

It's tough to compare to a legendary line like the PPE's, but how do you think 2018's team would compare to the one we had in 2009?

Hunter - Ray Edwards
Richardson - Kevin Williams
Linval - Phat Pat
Griffen - Jared Allen

It would be interesting to see how people think these two lines compare.  If we have a D-line that is comparable to what we had in '09 paired up with our current secondary, this should be a BEASTLY defense!

Comparing 2009 to 2017 since we don't know how 2018 will play out:

Griffen ~= Allen : Jared was a better pure edge rusher but Griffen is very good at that too, plus he's better at collapsing the pocket and against the run.

Hunter >> Edwards : Edwards was a one trick pony who ran hot and cold. Hunter is a more complete DE, way better against the run.

Kevin Williams > Richardson : Richardson is very good but KWill was a 1st team All Pro for 4 years in a row.

Linval > Pat Williams : Prime Phat Pat would be a close match for Linval, but by 2009 he was 37 and starting to slow down.

Similar overall, slight advantage to the current team IMO mainly thanks to Hunter vs Edwards.

I wasn't referring to the timing of a specific game, but the overall quality of the Iggles vs. Vikings DL anytime during the season.  That was the discussion I was reacting to in my post.  But, you may have a point that the two units are very close and the balance may shift later in the season of one unit has less quality depth to counter the effects of injury and fatigue.
