Need one of these CB's - the best of the rest

Brit Pack

Recommended Posts

Name: E.J Gaines
Age: 26
Height: 5.10
Weight:185
40 yard dash: 4.44 (at pro day)
Last season stats: 59 tackles, 3 forced fumbles. 1 interception
PFF Grade: 86.6 = high quality, 13 ranked
Comments: missed 26 games in last 3 seasons, 5 last season, will be on his fourth team in his four seasons.

Name: Ross Cockerell
Age: 26
Height: 6.0
Weight: 191
40 yard dash: 4.56 at Indy, 4.40 on Pro day
Last season stats: 50 tackles, 3 interceptions
PFF Grade: 81.6 = above average, 39 ranked
Comments: Ended up playing more towards the end of the season when his ints came. He played with Janrious Jenkins, Eli Apple, DRC where also part of the secondary. Played more when Jenkins got injured. “I think the biggest challenge playing nickel is adjusting to the different speed of playing on the inside than playing on the outside. I definitely had to adjust to it. I grew into it more as the season went on.”

Name: Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie
Age: 31 (32 in April)
Height: 6.2
Weight: 203
40 yard dash: 4.33
Last season stats: 48 tackles, 0.5 sack
PFF Grade: 77.2 = average, 58 ranked
Comments: Was Pro-Bowl in 2015, former first rounder of Arizona. More pass defenced (144) than anyone in the league since 2008, but had only one pass defenced last season, also got suspended for one game last season for violating team rules.

Name:  Tramon Williams
Age: 35
Height: 6
Weight: 192
40 yard dash: 4.47
Last season stats: 41 tackles, 2 interceptions
PFF Grade: 88.8 = high quality, 8 ranked
Comments: Former Packer. Inserted into the Cardinals from week 7 from which point the defence played much better.

Name:  Byron Maxwell
Age: 30
Height: 6.1
Weight: 198
40 yard dash: 4.43
Last season stats: 46 tackles, 2 forced fumbles, 1 interception
PFF Grade: 84 = above average, 25 ranked
Comments: Fell of the face of the earth after his big pay day in 2014 by the Eagles. Played last season for the Sea Chickens and he started last six games once Sherman went down.

Sorry for being a ****. I just lost count of the number of people who believed he was a FA over the past 3-4 days.

As for your list. It's pretty accurate breakdown of what's available.

I have to say Gaines probably won't be considered because he falls under the size thresholds for cornerbacks and also he's a zone corner when we're looking for man corners for Pettine scheme.

If I may add a few more candidates:

Bashaud Breeland (if he can sort his foot out)

Darrelle Revis (Plug and play in Pettine scheme)

Marcus Williams (was used as a nickle corner/safety with the Jets- did well before going to Houston)

Marcus Cooper (He had that one good year in Arizona 3-4 defence before moving to the Bears. He also has the required size and athleticism)

Davon House (Yuck but we have to consider him when all else fails)

Also to consider: Ronald Darby & Eli Apple as trade candidates.

Hadn’t researched the two Marcus’s. Both are worth taking a flier on from a little digging. I really like and want Revis for exactly the reason you mentioned.

Ross Cockrell is probably now the one I want the most. Also I like the idea of Piere Desir (sp) from the Colts, played well when he got his chance ast season, has worked with Pettine before in Cleveland and has great size.

Give me Cockrell, Revis and Desir and I’ll be happy.

Contracts being equal?

Revis over Gunter, Tramon over Revis.

Revis hasn't been an even average CB since 2015.

2016 and 2017 Revis had little motivation to play. Under Pettine with a bit of cash as a 32 year old that motivation could be refound.

I've got this icky gross feeling we're getting the gang back together and it's gonna be Williams, Gunter, King, House, Rollins and Waters and that we're going to draft an effing offensive tackle or some crap in round one.

I honestly don't think pride would allow that to happen. Not unless things well and truly collapse and we miss out on everybody.
