Purplexing
Want to risk a "Walsh"on a critical kick, especially in a critical / playoff game? Or, re-sign Forbath for a much lesser chance of that problem? If there are a few (not just one) Kickers available in the draft, Spielman could wait until just before the draft to negotiate with Forbath. IIRC, Forbath wants to return to Minnesota, for a chance to advance to a SB (win), so he's not likely to cost more than fair market value. A rookie K drafted after round 3 (on/ after rd 5 due to trade of 4th to Philly) carries some risk in pressure situations, despite a good track record in college. Why fall short on strengthening the roster for a SB run by 'dropping the snap' on a kicker?
swede700
It should be considered amazing that the Vikings, even after signing Richardson and Cousins, still have more cap space than over half of the rest of the NFL.

I'm not sure I understand why people like him so much, given his actual results produced.

RpMc
The fact that the Vikings ranked 31st out of 32 teams in terms of XP accuracy. and 18th in terms of field goal percentage. He also doesn't have the biggest leg, so long field goals are kind of off of the table.
Worm Guts
XP accuracy, I guess wouldn't be all that surprised if he hit them all this year. I'm not worried about that. 18th in fg percentage is probably a decent representation of where he is as a kicker.

swede700
I wouldn't be surprised to see a UDFA kicker to come in and compete with Forbath.

I feel like there's very few kickers who are truly great, mostly automatic, clutch; year over year. If you don't have that type, you may as well invest little in the position and ride their momentum. Kickers seem to change teams frequently and come in and out of slumps. Has Forbath peaked? Is he at best below avg kicker from a % standpoint or is there upside?
