  1. 1. What will the Giants do?

    • Stay at 2 and select their young Franchise QB
      70
    • Stay at 2 and draft Barkley or Nelson to go along with their 37 year old declining QB
      21
    • Trade down and fill holes and build for the future while filling the needs of the present

Giants trade down picking up a 2019 1st then yes they will be in a position to select a quarterback again. There isn’t a QB worth a top five pick. Stop overdrafting. This is Leinart/Young type of year. None of these guys are “can’t miss@ prospects. Let someone overpay for 2. Get a solid player in the first this year and pickup an extra 1st for next year and possibly multiple other extra picks.

Whoever trades up to number 2 for one of these guys is going to overpay and get a rookie quarterback that isn’t complete package. That 2019 1st is going to be gold.

Do we really know that as far as the QBs go? I mean i feel like we say that every year but guys regress, get hurt or stay another year

Totally possible and if it is, this is the most secretive the Giants have been in my lifetime. Shame it took them to have the #2 overall pick, where only one team picks before them, to understand the importance of being secretive.

I say this...if your not sold on any of the remaining QBs not named Darnold then take BPA elsewhere. As a GM you do not want to be handicapped to a player because of situational circumstances. At the same time it MIGHT be worth being proactive than reactive here. Because I don’t see the Gmen ever picking this high again. There’s just too much talent on the team and they really only picking this high bc of injuries. When Eli retires in a year or two just realize it might be forever to ever find a potential franchise QB.

I would be hard pressed to say that UCLAs offense outside Rosen was stacked in any sense of the word

Very true, but Rosen is a statue in the pocket and has had 2 concussions already and a separated shoulder. I would not touch him with a high pick, even though he is a wonderful talent! He is most often compared to Bradford, who career is marked with injury after injury!

Remember when the Texans has some of the best defenses in football, a strong WR Corp and a good enough offensive line, but there QB was trash?

It took a good deal of teams underselling Watson for them (not as stacked as they were in recent years) to get their QB and look like a threat.

The reality is if you think you need a QB, now is the time to get him. Maybe you do a good job of rebuilding, but by that point you’ll be in purgatory and every QB that comes your way in the draft will be 4th or 5th best and a reach and free agency won’t be the answer either. The Giants will always be able to build. They might not get a top QB prospect again

I think 4 factors will come into play and nobody has any knowledge of how the Giants will react, since they should know the answers!

1) The Giant's GM should know how long Eli will play??

2) And whether or not they feel he is slipping badly or can still play at a high level??

2) How strongly do they feel about QB #2 in the draft. Are they completely sold on him or not so sure??

4) Have the Bills been making offers suggesting they they can actually get a ton of picks for the #2 pick or ios it just a fantasy??

None of us know the answers, so predicting what he Giants will do, really will not be know before draft day!!!

Supports what I've been saying. Take the best player on your board at 2, or trade out and get ridiculous compensation. The way it is panning out, it looks like the Giants will not be taking a QB at 2, as they shouldn't, as they don't see Rosen, Allen, or Mayfield as a franchise QB.

Unless this is all a smokescreen.

Every thing this time of year is a smokescreen! You cannot believe any rumour, every GM plays  the game, trying to confuse their rivals, hoping they make a mistake!

Well, very few scouts and GM's agree with your assessment. There are zero QB's in the 2019 draft, on paper it looks thin except for the DL!

No drafted QB's are ever a complete package, that's a myth. They all have areas where they need to work hard on. The only question is, are they hard workers and is there enough basic talent to suggest a solid franchise QB plus top notch intangibles?

IMO, this QB class is one of the best I have seen in quite awhile. Very talented group with really solid intangibles, but each has some question marks, but then again, Wentz and Goff had question marks, that is where appraising talent comes in and you hope your scouts and GM are talented at picking solid prospects!!!

This Rosen is a statue in the pocket needs to stop. He’s actually really good in the pocket. Watch his games rather than listening to talking heads.

Maybe the campaign is just 1 big mirage and everything they tell you will be true but no one will believe them because of this "campaign"

He moves well in the pocket, but he's still a pocket passer.  Darnold, Allen, Mayfield have all shown more ability to get outside the pocket and make plays.

If Rosen is a statue then what is Matty Ice? Because I view Rosen as noticeably more athletic than him

There's no doubt that need is driving why QB's are going early, and there is no Luck-level prospect.   But that's the case pretty much every year since Luck.

And the thing is, as noted above - the 2019 class is a LOT thinner in top end talent.   Drew Lock is the only guy who gets much love for 2019's 1st round...and that's about it.   Will others come up?  Probably.  But consider this - the 2018 class had 3-4 guys who were thought of higher at this stage in their careers.   This is the time where all the faults get put under the microscope, and when ppl inevitably say "next year's class is better" - except what's happening is ppl view the 2019 class as FAR less talented.   That's a huge factor in what's driving this year's upsell on QB - the 4th/5th QB might be the #1 QB in next year's class.

And the final point - if you make the rest of  the team better and stick with Eli - chances are, you're not going to be a good team - but you may not be picking at 1.2 or even bottom 5 again.   And then the lack of 2019 top-end depth hurts even more, if you are forced to go QB then.

If people want to argue that QB is less certain nowadays at the top of the draft, no argument here.  But pointing to 2019 as the fallback plan seems incredibly unwise.

Every year, we get the whole "next year's QBs are better" comments and almost everytime it turns out to be false.  Why is this year any different?
