Can't even discuss anything because the thread is filled with people calling Michael Bennett human garbage because an elderly paraplegic was "injured" while working security? Like, are you kidding me?

If this happened to someone without Bennett's history, I doubt people would be calling him human garbage. He's got a history of being a piece of crap.

And why is "injured" in quotations?

Yeah, you shouldn't have an elderly paraplegic working security, but it doesn't mean you can just do whatever you want. That's beside the point. Bennett has a major problem with authority and it has bitten him in the butt many times before.

Or who knows? Maybe the old security woman put a gun in his face and threatened to kill him?

Basically two ideas on this

1) hes a horrible monster who intentionally harmed an old lady in a wheelchair

or

2) in unaware buffoonary knocked over the old lady.

Both make him an idiot but if he pushed his way through security not realizing he was going to hurt someone the legal ramifications should be far less than attacking her.

Injured is in quotations because we have no idea the extent of her injuries, and it's been shown time and time again that people consider a bruise or a sore muscle as an "injury".

Yeah, there's blame to go around on both sides here. Bennett not injuring a single other security worker kind of lends to the idea that he didn't bull rush a team of security to get through them, though.

I don't think you're using literally correctly.

It's pretty clear he's blaming the company that put her in harms way.

There are laws preventing companies for firing employees based on age and disability. She was there because she wanted to be working there and the company wanted her there.

Nevermind the fact that nobody else had an issue not harming someone, or this woman, there. Bennett hurt her. He is at fault.

She should've never been hired in the first place....I'm not sure what kind of laws there are preventing companies from hiring elderly paraplegics for security, but even if they were forced to hire her, she shouldn't be anywhere near a place where you have to perform actual security duties if she's an absolute liability.

Yes because there is no way she has been working for more than a single year at this company.

People like that work security for events like that all the time, honestly. Security teams for sporting events are HUGE, and they're mostly just there for show. They're not actually expected to be able to take on a bouncer style role of physically restricting anybody, they're really just there to direct traffic, where a bright uniform that says they're security and show that what they're blocking is off limits, and that's really it. They're security in the sense that the guy at the front desk in a Best Buy who checks receipts or a Wal-Mart greeter are security. You can have people that are elderly or that have mental or physical disabilities, because they're not expected to have to do anything security wise. Because most people aren't stupid or angry enough to actually physically do something to them. But you're not going to have the stereotypical image of security personnel fill out that entire staff. Doesn't pay well enough for that. And they need too many, for that. Heck, sometimes they'll pull volunteers, too. Not even just paid staff.

I doubt it was malicious. But it was careless and reeks of "I can do whatever I want because I'm famous and screw you people."

I agree. This amount of carelessness and callousness says a lot though. If you knock someone over, you help them up. It certainly sounds like he didn't even think twice about her or the security team after getting past them. Doesn't seem like anyone else had trouble using the other entrance like they were told

My girlfriend works Summerfest in Milwaukee every year, she's a teacher and has summers off so she enjoys the atmosphere and the pay is good. She is in charge of a gate, and with that comes the responsibility of kicking out folks who are either too intoxicated or unknowingly bought fake tickets and become hostile. When someone has to be forcibly removed from the grounds, there are larger people than my girlfriend who come and escort that individual off the grounds. If Summerfest put my girlfriend in that position and she was hurt by someone bigger and stronger than her damn right I'd be pissed at Summerfest for putting her in that situation. There are plenty of roles at Summerfest, and they find the right ones for each individual, there are plenty of roles as security for an event as large as the Super Bowl, this company did not put this woman in a role that was right for her. People have every right to point blame at them.
