Soko
https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.sbnation.com/platform/amp/2018/3/27/17151970/nfl-catch-rule-changes-2018 Basically takes out the “surviving the ground” part. You need possession, two feet down, a 3rd move (that includes reaching, another step, turning, etc.). Was voted 32-0 by owners. Tomlin pulled a Polian and spearheaded the change. It takes away some confusion, and most will like the change, but I still believe a guy shouldn’t be able to have the ball squeeze out from under him upon hitting the ground and that be a catch. If enforced the way the rule states, we’ll see more fumbles this year. Interested to see exactly how often this gets taken into effect.
eagles101
So whats the difference between this and how the rule was 10 years ago?
Malfatron
so what if you catch the ball and immediately get tackled without the 3rd move?
dtait93
Good change, and what I originally suggested a few months ago. This will now be considered a catch.

As long as you retain the ball, you're OK. If not, then it comes down to whether you had the opportunity to make a football move. That's the 3rd section. That's a judgment call, and likely not reviewable.

Still close, but yes I'd have to agree given the new language.

dtait93
Also, given how large of an advantage the offense has I am glad the defense finally has the pendulum swing it's way.
yrba1
Good, listening to Collinsworth justify Ertz's catch as an incomplete pass was insufferable
kramxel
This does not seem like a clarification..... And I feel will only result in more confusion, the "surviving the ground" part was confusing and badly implemented, but there was a reason it was included.
