Sleeper Players/Private Visits of Note...

So I’ve been thinking with it getting so close to the draft, we should make ourselves acquainted with a few sleeper prospects to look out for in the draft. I will mention two players at wide receiver that could be called draft day. Also important to note both of these receivers have been scheduled to official private visits by the Baltimore Ravens.

1. Daurice Fountain, WR, Northern Iowa:

6’1 1/2” 210 lbs, 34 1/2” (?) arms, 9 1/2” hands

40 time- 4.46s, Bench- 14x, 41 1/2” vertical, 11’2” broad

Projected Round: 6th

Fountain is going to be a raw receiving threat early, but he has the requisite size, amazing arm length, and great hands to develop into a player at the next level.

Daurice was MVP of the East-West shrine game because of efforts as both a receiver and returner. He's a known quantity as a return specialist and thus could be a potential replacement for Michael Campanaro.

2. Justin Watson, WR, UPenn:

6’2 1/2” 215 lbs, 33 1/2” arms, 9 1/4” hands

40 time- 4.44s (1.53s split), 7.08s 3-cone, 4.26 short shuttle, bench- 20x, 40” vertical, 10’4” broad

Projected Round: 4th/5th

Justin Watson is at DJ Moore levels when it comes to the analytics. He arguably has better hands as well. It honestly wouldn’t surprise me to see the Ravens decide to target Watson in the 3rd round if his workouts go well enough and for some reason we miss out on a receiver on day 1 or 2 such as DJ Moore or Michael Gallup (another receiver we’ve brought in for an official private visit).

I like both - depending on where we would get them. Fountain is the exciting upside pick, while Watson seems like a solid addition in the middle rounds. The thing I like the most about him is how he wait till the last minute to extend his arms when catching the ball over the shoulder. It gives the cornerback very little time to anticipate the ball coming.

Reported Private Workouts

Leighton Vander Esch, ILB, Boise State

Derrius Guice, RB, LSU

Chris Herndon, TE, Florida

Lamar Jackson, QB, Louisville

Daurice Fountain, WR, Northern Iowa

Michael Gallup, WR, Colorado State

DeMorney Pierson-El, WR, Nebraska

Justin Watson, WR, UPENN

The private visit with Lamar Jackson could be telling. I doubt he falls to the second round, which means we must be considering him in the first round. We’ve drafted athletic quarterbacks in Troy Smith and Tyrod Taylor in the past. We also have RGIII on a one year deal. I could easily see us adding wrinkles into the playbook for our athletic backup QBs.
