Mike Pettine has said recently he is no longer interesting in being a HC again.

good for him, more guys should realize that and stay in their lane.

I get the wanting to get to the top of your profession.

But if you get to a spot where you are part of a good franchise and get to be a coordinator with near autonomy of your side of the ball (see Jim Schwartz)
Why leave? Especially if you are just likely going to a bad team with no QB.

Make sure to add Jason Garrett to this list. I think Jerry finally looses his patience with Garrett this season as the Cowboys finish 3rd in the East.

do you think another team would hire him as their Head Coach?

No, but I wouldn't be surprised if he got an interview, winded up as a coordinator somewhere else after not getting hired.

If Pete Carmichael hasn't been given a shot by now there's probably good reason, seems like every year there is some buzz for him but it never amounts to anything. I don't think he has the charisma or people skills to lead a locker room. Some of that can be taught and learned, but his time with the Saints he seems to be much more of a Sean Payton X's and O's guy than a players coach. I really just don't expect him to make the leap to the next level.

I think he should be higher on the list. Partly because I love his name, but also because he's quietly turned Matt Stafford into a really good QB.

What about the running game issues?

I think Flip is the next McVay

I think he's the real deal. He was quite impressive as Cleveland's OC. He managed to make Manziel look passable. We'll see what he does with the Vikings.

What other candidates do you like? Who am I missing?

David Shaw HC Stanford

Jim Schwartz Eagles DC

Todd Wash Jaguars DC

Todd Haley Browns OC

Vic Fangio Bears DC

Marquand Manuel Falcons DC

I'd say the latter four are more watch list than anything. I think Shaw and Schwartz are leading candidates if they want to be NFL HCs.

What do you think of Schwartz tenure/leadership in Detroit?

I would've listed Shaw, but I feel like he will never leave Stanford. Just my $0.02
