‪Projecting the Wizards' starting lineup and rotation without Bradley Beal and Davis Bertans | NBC Sports Washington
https://www.nbcsports.com/washington/wizards/projecting-wizards-starting-lineup-and-rotation-without-bradley-beal-and-davis-bertans‬

PG -Ish Smith

Though both of their top two point guards are in Orlando, this one isn't an easy call because Brooks has shifted Smith and Napier back-and-forth in the starting spot. Napier had started eight straight games before the season shut down, but with Beal out, it would make sense if they rolled with Smith as the starter given his ability to get players into rhythm and push the pace.

SG - Jerian Grant

This may be the biggest surprise on here, but it also makes some sense if you think about it. Grant is a more experienced player than Jerome Robinson, which Brooks might prefer at least at first while the team's playoff hopes are very much alive.

F - Troy Brown Jr.

Brown is listed as a small forward, but the best role for him in Orlando would be as a versatile playmaker on offense. He is a good passer and, with Beal out, they could try to run some plays through him to maximize those strengths.

F - Rui Hachimura

This is the easiest call in the starting five. He has been a mainstay at the four all season and now should have a much larger role on offense with both Beal and Bertans out. Expect Hachimura to take 5-10 more shots per game than he usually does (11.1/g).

C - Thomas Bryant

Bryant gets the nod over Wagner and Ian Mahinmi here because the Wizards are going to need all the offense they can get with the players they are missing. Bryant can get you double-digit points on the regular.

Former Vols star Admiral Schofield's opportunities with the Washington Wizards have come only here and there so far during his rookie season. It seems that's about to change.

Schofield has played 29 games for the Wizards in his rookie season, starting twice and averaging 3.1 points, 1.3 rebounds and 0.5 assists in 10.9 minutes per game. He’s had some big moments, though.

In just his fourth career NBA game, he scored 15 points on 5-of-5 shooting from the field and 3-of-3 shooting from 3-point range against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Nov. 2, finishing at plus-10 in less than 15 minutes on the floor. He scored 14 points a month later against the Memphis Grizzlies, shooting 3-of-5 from behind the arc. He then scored a team-high 18 points and a career-high six rebounds in a loss at Orlando on Jan. 8.

The majority of Schofield’s rookie season has been spent in the G League, though. He’s played more than 30 minutes per game for the Go-Go, averaging 16.0 points, 5.5 rebounds and 2.2 assists.

Schofield told reporters he’s tried to take advantage of his opportunities in the G League, and that he believes he’s done that.

“I think the biggest thing was letting the game slow down for me in the G League and understanding NBA spacing,” Schofield said. “But also understanding the offense and getting as many reps as possible, knowing our coverages, knowing how to defend, getting reps (with different personnel), understanding different teams on the fly and also just adjusting to playing three or four times a week.”

“He can do all the things they [the Wizards] expect him to do,” Richman said. “I think sometimes guys don’t love that idea of, ‘Hey, I’ve got to fit into this little position.’ But once you can show that you can master that role is when you can expand your role.”

The Wizards play today at 3:30 vs the Nuggets:

Who are the starters?

The lineup head coach Scott Brooks trots out for the first exhibition game may be different from the one we will see on July 31, their first regular season game. It may even be different than the lineup Brooks uses for their second exhibition game. But what it will be is the first real example of what Brooks is thinking for his starters for opening night.

The Bradley Beal absence will loom large in particular, as Davis Bertans mostly came off the bench. Brooks could go many different directions at the shooting guard spot between Robinson, Grant or possibly even Brown, though he may start at the three. Also interesting will be the point guard position, though Brooks has indicated Shabazz Napier is the favorite.

The rotation will be undefined in this game. Brooks said he expects to play as many players as he can around six or seven minutes apiece.

I think the Wizards starting line up today vs Denv should be PG: Napier, SG: Jerome Robinson, SF: Troy Brown, PF: Rui C: Thomas Bryant. Just let these young guys play, we already know what we have in Grant & Ish Smith for example. Brooks will prob start Smith & Grant though bc they’re vets.

Is this a scrimmage or one of those regular season games? I haven't been overly following when that starts.

It’s just a scrimmage. They’re down 42-36 at halftime. Rui has 9pts, 4 rebs. Napier has 6 pts, 4 assists & 2 steals. Wagner & Brown have 5 pts. Bryant has 4 pts.

OZ is comparing Brown to Evan Turner bc of their issues with an inconsistent jump shot. Brown is a better playmaker, defender and rebounder though. If Brown is a 14/15 ppg, 6-8 reb, 4 assists & 1-2 steals a game will be a really solid #4 option for the Wizards next year after Beal, Wall & Rui.
