Skinsin2013
https://sports.yahoo.com/newly-minted-wizards-gm-tommy-122411743.html Our own Dan Feldman broke it down this way (future estimates based on salary cap projections by the NBA): • Sign this 2019 extension: $111.8 over three years ($35.1 million per year) • Make All-NBA next season and sign a super-max extension in 2020: $250 million over five years ($50 million per year) • Become a free agent and re-sign with Wizards on regular-max in 2021: $214 million over five years ($43 million per year) • Become a free agent and re-sign with Wizards on super-max in 2021: $250 million over five years ($50 million per year) • Leave Wizards in 2021: $159 million over four years ($40 million per year) My take --- Hence likely turns down Friday's extension offer. Hence, the Wiz should trade him shortly thereafter.

Hence, the Wiz should trade him shortly thereafter. Hard to argue with this. If he doesn’t agree to extend, their hands are probably tied. They likely won’t be good enough by 2021 to entice him to return, and the next couple seasons probably won’t be real enjoyable (from a win/loss standpoint at least), so if he’s not on board now — it’s hard to imagine him getting on board by then. Also, your prior post about preferring to trade Beal for picks and other assets instead of using him as a handcuff to dump the Wall deal is dead on. It’s obviously enticing to clear the books of that bad contract, but doing so should not take priority over adding more opportunities to land top flight talent.

If Beal passes on the extension, the Wizards have no plans to engage in trade talks with two years, $55.8 million left on his contract, Sheppard said. As the franchise's newly promoted GM, Sheppard intends to sell Beal on a reshaped organization under his leadership. Sheppard cited Beal's willingness to wait a year in 2015 to sign his rookie extension to allow the franchise to keep its salary-cap space early in 2016 free agency.

And his agent says he'll need time to think about it. Soooooooooo dumb if he rejects and they don't trade him.
Jeezy Fanatic
I think making this offer was their only play, so no issue with it - but if he rejects you have to trade ASAP. Not like his value rises the closer he get to the end of his contract.

Paul George was traded with 1 year remaining on his deal and still got offered a new contract by the team that traded for him and then was traded a year later by the same team he resigned with. Some of you don't know **** about what your talking about. Beal is a Wizards regardless of a extention for the next 2 years! If he doesn't sign the extension, his best bet would be to play better than in the past to increase his trade value due to Shepard turning down prio offerss. If he doesn't and was to end next year the same place as he did this year without signing a extention the Wizards can move forward in trade talks than. He doesn't have to be moved RIGHT NOW LIKE SOME OF YOUR DESPERATELY ARE PULLING FOR!

If a guy doesn’t want to be somewhere, as not signing this contract would indicate, you need to move on because otherwise you’re just in limbo forever, and he’s already on the free agency tour. Your spending your time middling with a guy who is going to walk away rather than making the tough choice and building a future. No ones trashing Beal - he’s a good player who doesn’t provide a team that doesn’t have many good players a heck of a lot of value but for say a team like the Pistons who have elite interior plays but lack 3 point shooting, maybe they feel he pushes him to contenders and will pay the cost associated with that.

Quote Beal’s trade value as of right now is extremely high. If the Wizards decide to wait to trade Beal until next summer, his value will drop as teams could view him as a one-year rental. Also, the Wizards would have to hope Beal stays healthy as injuries could lead to a massive hit in trade value. I wonder if anyone else mentioned that earlier ... hmmm ...
