Its a max deal.  That's a lot of money for a guy who's probably not a top 40 player in the NBA.

Ironically (or not), when it kicks in it'll make him only the 37th highest paid.

God this is exactly what they did with Otto Porter.  They were so scared of losing an average player that they paid him like a high end starter.  Absolutely idiotic contract.  The guy can shoot but he can't guard anyone.

Btw this was my response to the Bertans contract.

This looks way worse than the Otto contract so far, Otto did everything above average to good, Bertans is just a shooter & he's shooting his worst 3-point % in his career this year after we hand him an $80 million contract. It’s awful. He has to get better.

Another 2-10 from 3 last night from Bertans is just unacceptable.

So on the Bill Simmons Podcast the other day he did a whole segment on potential Bradley Beal trade packages.  His ideas:

From Warriors

C James Wiseman

SF Kelly Oubre

2021 Timberwolves pick which has top 3 protection.

- Wiseman is a legit talent to build around in his own right, but the Timberwolves pick has a chance to be a top 5 selection this, or it becomes unprotected next year if it doesn't convey.  I doubt they'll be any better next year.  Those are two premium prospects.

From Knicks

RG Barrett

4 firsts in alternating drafts

3 pick swaps in the drafts in between

- Barrett is a young cornerstone who replaces Beal in the lineup.  Gives Wizards a stockpile of picks.

From Nuggets

SG Gary Harris

PG RJ Hampton

SF Michael Porter Jr.

Two firsts

Porter Jr. is the centerpiece here.  Harris is an average player and Hampton is a rookie plus two picks.  Depends on how you value Porter Jr.

From Hawks

SF Deandre Hunter

C Okongwu

SG Kevin Huerter

2 Firsts

- I actually suggested this exact trade offer the other day lol.  I think this is a great haul personally.  Debatable between this one and the Warriors offer IMO.

From Suns

Bradley Beal for Devin Booker straight up

- This one seems really unreasonable to me.  Booker would revolt and want out.  Doesn't really make sense for Wizards imo.

I’d do the Warriors trade - but I don’t have a clue why they’d do that trade. They have Klay, he’ll be back next year to go w/ Steph, Green & Weisman. Seems stupid of them to trade someone that should be part of their team that they build around for the next decade even after Steph & Klay retire.

I love the Hawks trade as the #2.

I tend to believe that Beal won’t get traded during the season though. Maybe in July.

Amazing what a roll Beal was on for so long breaking Michael Jordan’s record for 25 point plus straight games to start a season and then how off he was last night. I don’t think I’ve ever seen Beal shoot so bad from the floor (1-14, 1-7 from 3) It was just one of those nights, nothing was falling for the Wizards.

The good news was that Bertans was 2-2 from 3. And Alex Len played well with 18 points, 3 rebs, 2 assists, 2 steals and 5 blocks with 2 of them being extremely impressive.

Would have to expect that if they’re going to fire Scott Brooks this year, tonight might be the time. Back-to-back 25+ point losses,  both to struggling below-.500 teams, both with the full complement of players. It’s probably about time for a change. The charade of contending for the playoffs this year is probably coming to an end, and his tenure probably should be as well.

Just checking in on our big offseason acquisition, the Wizards are now 2-12 with Russell Westbrook. 3-3 when he sits. Seems like a solid use of $40M and a 1st round pick thus far.

It’s unfortunate this franchise was sold to Leonsis. I still consider him one of the worst owners in sports. He nearly wasted the entirety of one of the greatest hockey players ever career.

For different reasons other than the Snyder's, Jones's, Dolan's, etc, but yes I agree to your point to some extent.

How? They built a team that competed for the Stanley Cup almost every year that Ovi has been on the team. The owner can only do so much. It’s not Ted’s fault the players and the coaches couldn’t beat the Penguins for so many years.

I 100% think Ted should fire Brooks. Does keeping Brooks make him one of the worst owners in sports? I don’t think it does.

Perhaps Ted doesn’t want to fire Brooks mid season & he was giving Tommy Shepherd a chance after trading for Westbrook to build a team that could win more than they did with Wall.

I just don’t know, but I don’t consider Leonsis who has a championship one the sports worlds worst owners. Yeah, he could do things better. I would’ve never let Ernie trade Oubre after Otto and I wouldn’t have traded Wall, but just because I disagree with those moves doesn’t mean I consider him one of the worst owners in sports.

One thing to consider is that if this team continues on its current pace, we’ll add a top 5 prospect which should be good for our future as Avdija & Rui look to be as well.
