It 100% would have to involve Caufield, despite Montreal fans saying he's untouchable.

I'm not sure how much more we would be able to squeeze out of them though. He's been very productive since coming up, and it's really just the brutal start to last season (3 pts, all assists, in his first 15 games). After that he ran at a .8 PPG clip in 16 minutes a game. Before that he had 12 point in 20 playoff games and 5 in 10 regular season games. He's a legit point producer. Like, I think there's a good chance that he's 85% - 90% of Alex Debrincat with more team control and salary value. I don't think we would do that straight up, but I don't think we'd get a ton over top of  him.

The question is whether we should be entertaining that or if we would. Like damn that lineup would be small.

What does DeBrincat do significantly better? They look extremely similar

What does he mean by "significant" because Ryan has flatly stated the sides have been in talks. I'm not even sure what it would take to get him.

There hasn't been money discussed, according to Ryan, so I'd imagine that it is. They have touched base some back and forth, but they haven't actually discussed dollar figures. I definitely think money needs to be discussed before you can consider it serious

How do you have extension talks without discussing money? Like do they just go "do you you want to be here? Okay cool, how many years you looking for? Okay, ttyl."

Him getting moved only makes sense in a true hockey trade and I don't think that there is anything like that really available

The only thing I could see is, if Johnny Hockey doesn't extend in Calgary, Bratt+ for Tkachuk.

I thought of that too. Or, if we make a move for Cat or Caufield or Johnny Hockey...I could see Bratt being moved for composition purposes, but I have no idea what would be an option out there for it. Timo for Bratt? They get to reset that winger contract with Bratt taking something like 4x6, we get a guy who I think may be excited to extend with us to stick with Nico. I mean, I could kind of see that? Tkachuk. Maybe a goalie? I think its a pretty limited scenario

Yeah, it would require a lot of moving parts. Maybe they foresee more contentious negotiations on the money side after the last talks and they're just doing their due diligence on the trade market?

Yeah, if the previous negotiating had gone smoothly I wouldn't be concerned. The fact that they went not ideally makes me unable to completely dismiss it.

Bratt has some power. He's arbitration eligible and two years from ufa. I could see term being a real issue if the last negotiation left a sour taste in his mouth

Sure, pretty much see it the same way. Not completely brushing off the rumors but just don't see a realistic path that doesn't involve a futures only trade.

If Tampa wants to resign palat, I'd put in a call and see if we can get killorn kind of cheap. Only one year in his deal, still playing at a solid level, perfect style of player for this team and has the culture and experience
