2018 Mock Draft - German Edition

As every year we did a mock draft on our german NFL message board. 32 guys, each one responsible for one team. I love that format, because you cannot pick players where you think they should be picked, but you have 31 other guys who are trying the same, so the results will be worse than in other mock drafts. Trades were allowed, but only 2018 picks, no future picks and no players. Again I was representing the Packers FO in this mock draft and that's what I ended up with:

Round 1:

#1 Browns - Saquon Barkley, RB, Penn State
#2 Giants - Quenton Nelson, OG, Notre Dame
#3 Jets - Sam Darnold, QB, USC
#4 Browns - Baker Mayfield, QB, Oklahoma
#5 Broncos - Bradley Chubb, DE, NC State
#6 Bills (from Colts) - Josh Allen, QB, Wyoming
#7 Cardinals (from Buccaneers) - Josh Rosen, QB, UCLA
#8 Bears - Tremaine Edmunds, LB, Virginia Tech
#9 Titans (from 49ers) - Roquan Smith, LB, Georgia

#10 Packers (from Raiders) - Minkah Fitzpatrick, S, Alabama

I know, the board was falling pretty well for me and a lot of people won't like the uptrade, but I was trading #14, #76 and #187 to the Raiders for #10. Minkah Fitzpatrick is not just a slot corner nor a safety, he is just a defensive back machine. You can put him in your backfield at any position and he will upgrade your defense significantly. IMO he is clearly a top 5 prospect in this draft class and the Packers usually don't get a chance to draft top 5 caliber players. Thus, as he was falling down to #10 I just had to make this call. I would have been OK, with either James, Ward, Davenport or Landry, but I feel so much more comfortable with Fitzpatrick that I thought it was worth the uptrade. Raiders GM confirmed that Fitz was his man as well without a downtrade.

#11 Dolphins - Derwin James, S, Florida State
#12 Colts (from Bills) - Denzel Ward, CB, Ohio State
#13 Redskins - Vita Vea, DT, Washington
#14 Raiders (from Packers) - Marcus Davenport, DE, UTSA
#15 Buccaneers (from Cardinals) - Derrius Guice, RB, LSU
#16 Ravens - Calvin Ridley, WR, Alabama
#17 Chargers - Da'Ron Payne, DT, Alabama
#18 49ers (from Seahawks) - Harold Landry, LB, Boston College
#19 Cowboys - Rashaan Evans, LB, Alabama
#20 Lions - Maurice Hurst, DT, Michigan
#21 Bengals - Orlando Brown, OT, Oklahoma
#22 Panthers (from Colts via Bills) - Justin Reid, S, Stanford
#23 Rams - Isaiah Wynn, OG, Georgia
#24 Colts (from Panthers) - Mike McGlinchey, OT, Notre Dame
#25 Jaguars (from Seahawks via 49ers via Titans) - Leighton Vander Esch, LB, Boise State
#26 Falcons - Taven Bryan, DT, Florida
#27 Saints - Josh Jackson, CB, Iowa
#28 Steelers - Lorenzo Carter, LB, Georgia
#29 Seahawks (from Jaguars) - Nick Chubb, RB, Georgia
#30 Vikings - Billy Price, C, Ohio State
#31 Patriots - Connor Williams, OT, Texas
#32 Eagles - Dallas Goedert, TE, South Dakota State

Round 2:

#33 Browns - Jaire Alexander, CB, Louisville
#34 Giants - Mike Hughes, CB, UCF
#35 Browns - Arden Key, DL, LSU
#36 Buccaneers (from Colts) - Isaiah Oliver, CB, Colorado
#37 Bears (from Colts) - Will Hernandez, OG, UTEP
#38 Colts (from Buccaneers) - James Daniels, C, Iowa
#39 Colts (from Bears) - DJ Moore, WR, Maryland
#40 Broncos - Lamar Jackson, QB, Louisville
#41 Chargers (from Raiders) - Kolton Miller, OT, UCLA
#42 Colts (from Dolphins) - Sam Hubbard, DE, Ohio State
#43 Patriots - Mark Andrews, TE, Oklahoma
#44 Redskins - Ronald Jones, RB, USC

#45 Packers - Courtland Sutton, WR, SMU

I stayed put there and didn't like the EDGE class at this point, nor the remaining tier 2 corners, so I decided to pick Courtland Sutton, probably the best X receiver in this class. He doesn't have elite speed, but he's a sure handed receiver which has all the tools and abilities to replace our great #87.

#46 Bengals - Frank Ragnow, C, Arkansas
#47 Buccaneers (from Cardinals) - Ronnie Harrison, S, Alabama
#48 Raiders (from Chargers) - Christian Kirk, WR, Texas A&M
#49 Dolphins (from Colts) - Carlton Davis, CB, Auburn
#50 Cowboys - Harrison Phillips, DT, Stanford
#51 Lions - Sony Michel, RB, Georgia
#52 Ravens - Mike Gesicki, TE, Penn State
#53 Bills - Darius Leonard, LB, South Carolina State
#54 Chiefs - Jessie Bates, S, Wake Forest
#55 Panthers - Ian Thomas, TE, Indiana
#56 Bills - Tyrell Crosby, OT, Oregon
#57 49ers (from Titans) - Braden Smith, OG, Auburn
#58 Falcons - Tim Settle, DT, Virginia Tech
#59 49ers - DJ Chark, WR, LSU
#60 Steelers - Mason Rudolph, QB, Oklahoma State
#61 Jaguars - Martinas Rankin, OT, Mississippi State
#62 Dolphins (from Vikings) - Hayden Hurst, TE, South Carolina
#63 Patriots - Rasheem Green, DE, USC
#64 Browns - Malik Jefferson, LB, Texas

Round 3:

#65 Bills - James Washington, WR, Oklahoma State
#66 Giants - Josh Sweat, DE, Florida State
#67 Colts - Rashaad Penny, RB, San Diego State
#68 Texans - Donte Jackson, CB, LSU
#69 Giants - Uchenna Nwosu, OLB, USC
#70 49ers - Ogbonnia Okoronkwo, DE, Oklahoma
#71 Broncos - Kerryon Johnson, RB, Auburn
#72 Jets - Jaylen Samuels, TE, NC State
#73 Vikings (from Dolphins) - M.J. Stewart, CB, North Carolina
#74 49ers - Michael Gallup, WR, Colorado State
#75 Raiders - Brian O'Neill, OT, Pittsburgh
#76 Raiders (from Packers) - Nathan Shepherd, DT, Fort Hays State
#77 Bengals - Josey Jewell, LB, Iowa
#78 Chiefs - Austin Corbett, OG, Nevada
#79 Buccaneers (from Cardinals) - Wyatt Teller, OG, Virginia Tech
#80 Texans - Geron Christian, OT, Louisville
#81 Cowboys - Anthony Miller, WR , Memphis
#82 Lions - Kemoko Turay, DE, Rutgers
#83 Ravens - Kalen Ballage, RB, Arizona State
#84 Rams (from Chargers) - Skai Moore, LB South Carolina
#85 Panthers - Kyzir White, S, West Virginia

#86 Packers (from Chiefs) - Dorance Armstrong, OLB, Kansas

Again a trade. A lot of suitable EDGE guys like Sweat, Nwuso and Okoronkwo went off board in the meantime and I thought it was about time to move up, so I traded #101, #133 and #207 to Kansas City for #86. I know, that's a lot to give up for 15 spots, but people can be really demanding if they see that you have 12 picks :D For sure I have a much higher opinion on Armstrong than most of the people here, because I just don't care about his lack of production in 2017. He played for an awful football program in Kansas, he was double teamed all the time because of lack of quality teammates and the change in the defensive system of Kansas didn't help him as well. But if you watch his 2016 tape there is nothing that you can hate about this guy. It's plain sexy

#87 Chargers (from Rams) - Tecray Scales, LB, Indiana
#88 Colts (from Panthers) - Deadrin Senat, DT, USF
#89 Seahawks (from 49ers via Titans) - Duke Ejiofor, DE, Wake Forest
#90 Falcons - Deon Cain, WR, Clemson
#91 Vikings (from Saints) - Dante Pettis, WR, Washington

#98 Giants (from Texans) - Kyle Lauletta, QB, Richmond
#99 Broncos - Anthony Averett, CB, Alabama
#100 Texans (from Bengals) - Chukwuma Okorafor, OT, Western Michigan

Round 4:

#101 Jets (from Chiefs via Packers) - Royce Freeman, RB, Oregon
#102 Dolphins (from Colts via Buccaneers) - Da'Shawn Hand, DT, Alabama
#103 Bengals (from Texans) - Auden Tate, WR, FSU
#104 Panthers (from Colts) - Mason Cole, C, Michigan
#105 Chiefs (from Bears) - Isaac Yiadom, CB, Boston College
#106 Broncos - Scott Quessenberry, C/G, UCLA
#107 Chiefs (from Jets) - Hercules Mata'afa, DE/OLB, Washington State
#108 Texans (from Giants) - Dalton Schultz, TE, Stanford
#109 Cowboys (from Broncos) - Rashaan Gaulden, S, Tennessee
#110 Raiders - Nyheim Hines, RB, NC State
#111 Rams - Will Richardson, OT, NC State
#112 Bengals - Greg Stroman, CB, VT
#113 Redskins - Siran Neal, S, Jacksonville State
#114 Browns - Keke Coutee, WR, TTU
#115 Bears - Kameron Kelly, S, SDSU
#116 Cowboys - Antonio Callaway, WR, Florida
#117 Lions - Marcell Ateman, WR, Oklahoma State
#118 Ravens - Brandon Parker, OT, North Carolina A&T
#119 Raiders (from Chargers) - Parry Nickerson, CB, Tulane
#120 Seahawks - Jamarco Jones, OT, Ohio State
#121 Bills - Duke Dawson, CB, Florida
#122 Bears (from Chiefs) - Oren Burks, LB, Vanderbilt
#123 Vikings (from Dolphins) - B.J. Hill, DT, NC State
#124 Chiefs - Daurice Fountain, WR, Northern Iowa
#125 49ers (from Titans) - Kevin Toliver, CB, LSU
#126 Falcons - Shaquem Griffin, LB, UCF
#127 Saints - Jerome Baker, LB, Ohio State
#128 49ers - Micah Kiser, LB, Virginia
#129 Jaguars - Mike White, QB, Western Kentucky
#130 Eagles - Nick Nelson, CB, Wisconsin
#131 Dolphins - Luke Falk, QB, Washington State
#132 Eagles - Korey Cunningham, OT, Cincinnati
#133 Chiefs (from Packers) - Folorunso Fatukasi, DT, UConn
#134 Cardinals - Desmond Harrison, OT, West Georgia
#135 Rams - Alex Cappa, OT, Humboldt State
#136 Patriots - Quenton Meeks, CB, Stanford
#137 Broncos (from Cowboys) - Chris Herndon, TE, Miami

Round 5:

#138 Packers - Troy Fumagalli, TE, Wisconsin

Again a pick that a lot of people here might not like. But for me, with or without Badgers fan glasses, Fumagalli is just the complete package you can expect from a Tight End. He is a very good blocker (obviously needed playing for Wisconsin), has hands as good as it gets (even with 9 fingers) and just overshadows his lack of speed with excellent route running. I just see a quality complement to Graham and don't know why he should fall further.

#139 Texans (from Giants) - Will Clapp, OC, LSU
#140 Colts - Genard Avery, LB, Memphis
#141 Seahawks - Holton Hill, CB, Texas
#142 Broncos - Durham Smythe, TE, Notre Dame
#143 Jaguars (from Seahawks via 49ers) - Marcus Allen, S, Penn State
#144 Buccaneers - Ola Adeniyi, DE, Toledo
#145 Colts (from Bears) - DaeSean Hamilton, WR, Penn State
#146 Seahawks - Jeremy Reaves, S, South Alabama
#147 Saints - Tyquan Lewis, DE, Ohio State
#148 Steelers - Tre'Quan Smith, WR, UCF
#149 Redskins - Allen Lazard, WR, Iowa State
#150 Browns - Godwin Igwebuike, S, Northwestern
#151 Bengals - Chad Thomas, DE, Miami
#152 Cardinals - JC Jackson, CB, Maryland
#153 Rams (from Lions) - Marquis Haynes, DE, Ole Miss
#154 Ravens - Tony Adams, OG, NC State
#155 Bears (from Chargers) - J'Mon Moore, WR, Missouri
#156 Seahawks - Leon Jacobs, LB, Wisconsin
#157 Chargers (from Bears via Chiefs via Jets) - Dorian O'Daniel, LB, Clemson
#158 Bengals - Derrick Nnadi, DT, FSU
#159 Raiders - Dane Cruikshank, S, Arizona
#160 Broncos - Jamil Demby, OT, Maine
#161 Panthers - Ade Aruna, DE, Tulane
#162 Titans - Trenton Thompson, DT, Georgia
#163 Broncos - Jeff Holland, OLB/DE, Auburn
#164 Saints - Jordan Akins, TE, UCF
#165 Steelers - John Kelly, RB, Tennessee
#166 Bills - Simmie Cobbs Jr., WR, Indiana
#167 Vikings - Mark Walton, RB, Miami
#168 Seahawks - Joseph Noteboom, OT, TCU
#169 Eagles - Jack Cichy, LB, Wisconsin
#170 Bengals - Jordan Whitehead, S, Pittsburgh
#171 Broncos (from Cowboys) - Deontay Burnett, WR, USC

#172 Packers - Terrell Edmunds, S, VT

Edmunds is likely a bit under the radar due to the outstanding performance of his younger brother, but he almost has the athletic ability of him and great size and length. He played CB, SS and FS for the Hokies. His main problem is that he is sometimes to aggressive in coverage, which puts him out of position in some plays, so I don't see him as a free safety on the next level, but more of a in the box safety with some linebacker duties, so something like Morgan Burnett played in the past.

#173 Raiders - Andrew Brown, DT, Virginia

#174 Packers - Tarvarus McFadden, CB, FSU

Secondary again. McFadden has prototypical size and frame you would love for a CB and has tons of experience playing press-man coverage as Pettine is likely to play in Green Bay. He will need further coaching, but and the end I would hope to have a starting outside CB with him.

Round 6:

#175 Browns - Daniel Carlson, K, Auburn
#176 Lions (from Rams) - Brendan Mahon, OG, Penn State
#177 Bengals (from Texans) - Ryan Yurachek, TE, Marshall
#178 Colts - Tarvarius Moore, S, Southern Mississippi
#179 Jets - Darius Phillips, CB, Western Michigan
#180 Buccaneers - Kendrick Norton, DT, Miami
#181 Chargers (from Bears) - Justin Jones, DT, NC State
#182 Broncos - Stephen Roberts, S, Auburn
#183 Rams - Roc Thomas, RB, Jacksonville State
#184 49ers - Troy Apke, S, Penn State
#185 Raiders - Michael Dickson, P, Texas
#186 Raiders (from Packers) - Joe Ostman, DE, Central Michigan
#187 Bills - Sean Welsh, OG, Iowa
#188 Redskins - Jalyn Holmes, DE, Ohio State
#189 Saints - Colby Gossett, OG, Appalachian State
#190 Ravens - Trayvon Henderson, S, Hawaii
#191 Chargers - Tre Flowers, S, Oklahoma State
#192 Broncos (from Cowboys) - Bilal Nichols, DT, Delaware
#193 Cowboys - Shaun Dion Hamilton, LB, Alabama
#194 Bears (from Chargers via Rams) - Bo Scarbrough, RB, Alabama
#195 Rams - PJ Hall, DT, SHSU
#196 Chiefs - Akrum Wadley, RB, Iowa
#197 Panthers - Justin Jackson, RB, Northwestern
#198 Lions (from Rams) - Logan Woodside, QB, Toledo
#199 Titans - Christian Sam, LB, Arizona State
#200 Falcons - Dimitri Flowers, FB, Oklahoma
#201 Saints - Damon Webb, S, Ohio State
#202 Buccaneers - Jaleel Scott, WR, New Mexico State
#203 Jaguars - D.J. Reed, CB, Kansas State
#204 Saints (from Vikings) - Bradley Bozeman, C, Alabama
#205 Browns - Stacy Thomas, LB, Louisville
#206 Eagles - Justin Watson, WR, Penn
#207 Chiefs (from Packers) - Levi Wallace, CB, Alabama
#208 Cowboys - Cole Madison, OG, Washington State
#209 Colts (from Dolphins) - Tyler Conklin, TE, Central Michigan
#210 Patriots - Natrell Jamerson, S, Wisconsin
#211 Texans - Chase Edmonds, RB, Fordham
#212 Raiders - Breeland Speaks, DT, Mississippi
#213 Vikings - Ethan Wolf, TE, Tennessee
#214 Texans - Kylie Fitts, DE, Utah
#215 Ravens - Ja'von Rolland-Jones, OLB, Arkansas State
#216 Raiders - Korey Robertson, WR, Southern Miss
#217 Raiders - Joel Iyiegbuniwe, LB, Western Kentucky
#218 Vikings - Poona Ford, DT, Texas

Round 7:

#219 Patriots - Josh Adams, RB, Notre Dame
#220 Steelers - Quentin Poling, ILB, Ohio
#221 Colts - James Looney, DT, Cal
#222 Texans - Riley Ferguson, QB, Memphis
#223 49ers - Avonte Maddox, CB, Pittsburgh
#224 Bears - Darious Williams, CB, UAB
#225 Vikings - Nick DeLuca, LB, North Dakota State
#226 Seahawks - Jullian Taylor, DT, Temple
#227 Dolphins - Ito Smith, RB, Southern Miss
#228 Raiders - Taron Johnson, CB, Weber State
#229 Dolphins - Will Dissly, TE, Washington
#230 Jaguars - Ryan Izzo, TE, Florida State
#231 Redskins - Skyler Phillips, OG, Idaho State

#232 Packers - Toby Weathersby, OT, LSU

I got a bit screwed on that one. Sam and Phillips were my alternates for #174 and then I saw Phillips falling almost 60 spots, just to be picked one spot prior than I was OTC. So I decided to go with Weathersby, he also looks like the versatile OL that the Packers usually draft. Played Tackle at LSU but might be moved to Guard in the NFL.

#233 Chiefs - Greg Senat, OT, Wagner
#234 Panthers - Davontae Harris, CB, Illinois State
#235 Jets - Jermaine Carter, LB, Maryland
#236 Cowboys - Phillip Lindsay, RB, Colorado
#237 Lions - Christian Campbell, CB, Penn State
#238 Ravens - Jason Cabinda, LB, Penn State

#239 Packers - Matt Thomas, LB, FSU

Some more depth for the ILB position. I don't see Martinez as a weak point, he really excelled last season, but Jake Ryan could need a bit of a kick in the *** and Thomas might provide that at this point.

#240 49ers - Timon Parris, OT, Stony Brook
#241 Redskins - Mike McCray, LB, Michigan
#242 Panthers - Jake Wieneke, WR, South Dakota State
#243 Chiefs - Joel Lanning, LB, Iowa State
#244 Falcons - Ryan Nall, RB, Oregon State
#245 Saints - Nic Shimonek, QB, TTU
#246 Steelers - Deatrick Nichols, CB, USF
#247 Jaguars -
#248 Seahawks -
#249 Texans (from Bengals) -
#250 Eagles -
#251 Raiders (from Chargers) -
#252 Bengals -
#253 Bengals -
#254 Cardinals -
#255 Buccaneers -
#256 Falcons -

Any thoughts overall on my performance? Any comment or different suggestion is well appreciated. Just no "why didn't you pick player X instead of Y?" when you clearly see that player X was long gone, that's why I posted the full draft :)

Thanks a lot, Shanedorf. I'm not allowed to like any posts yet, but any comments are, as I said, well appreciated.

If we're trading up at that point I'd much rather it be Ward.

Dont love Sutton. I would be just okay with it.

I have a hard time believing we get to the 3rd round without addressing one of EDGE or Outside CB.

All in all I don't mind the prospects chosen. If it were me I would probably have let the board play out and stay at 14.

Good effort overall.

Ja. Ich mag James oder Ward besser als Fitzpatrick. Ich glaube Ward wird ein besser draussen(?) Eck-Ruck(?) sein. Und James ist grosser.

If we're moving up I prefer it to be for Derwin James or most importantly Ward. However, this is a really good mock. You did an excellent job hitting on key areas for us and did an even more excellent job putting in work to make this mock enjoyable to read. It is certainly a breath of fresh air against people posting their Fanspeak mocks over and over again. Thank you for the time and effort put in!

Just making that up. I don't think there's German equivalent for outside cornerback. Is there?

No, there isn't. It's an american sport, so we just use the same terminology as you guys do. A cornerback is a cornerback and a quarterback is a quarterback ;)
