They should pick the best player available. Which is Davenport.

Tyrone Crawford was your STARTING BLINDSIDE RUSHER LAST YEAR.

That's a hole. A weakness. A need. A whatever the hell you wanna call it, it ain't good!

Between Taco and Davenport we might have a rush next to Lawrence. Or a replacement for him.

This is all fair assessments. Crawford wasnt a bad end on the weakside but ideally you want a guy with burst and agility to work around the blocker for that side, not to take them on, head on. It is difficult to envision a sophmore first round pick not being given a full, favored, even mistakes-overlooked type of chance to win the job, though.

Still, can never go wrong with too many ends. Ive lost faith in the Tapper selection, Ealy could be a complete hit or miss, and Crawfords best ability is his versatility. So I could see them going Davenport if they truly feel hes the best option.

My gut, however, tells me they love Vander Esch a bit too much. Size, speed, power, youth, hips for coverage, physicality for tackling, he is right up their proverbial alley.

I chose Davenport, but with this staff?

1. With Lawrence counting QB $ on the cap

2. Them spending a 1st on a pure DE just last year

3. Tyrone mf'ing Crawford

4. Kony Ealy being one of our FA trophies

5. Charles any year now Tapper

6. Randy Gregory not celebrating 4/20 anymore

.........

I'd be willing to bet money this staff would pass on Bradley Chubb at 19 for LVE, Ridley, Washington, or Moore.

I know there are a lot of mockers picking Vander Esch but the Cowboy's also need to address getting a Fletcher Cox type player to compliment this Defensive Line to help shield the linebackers to make tackles and Da'Ron Payne would fit the bill. You can address the linebacker position in the 2nd - 5th rnds. Fred Warner, Darius Leonard, Josey Jewell, Christian Sam, Leon Jacobs and Malik Jefferson. We don't have much depth quality interior Defensive Lineman , Malik Collins, David Irving and suspect Tyrone Crawford.

I'd slightly lean Davenport with all the uncertainty surrounding our defensive ends come 2019 (D-Law and Ealy expiring, Crawford is Crawford, Tapper, Gregory, and Taco, who knows), though LVE, Moore, and Wynn are tempting. However, I think this coaching staff would have a hard time spending another first rounder on a defensive end they can't expect much from Year 1, assuming their goal is to remain employed this time next year.

Davenport might be a guy we want to fall here as a trade back chip, since he seems like a strong candidate to go #20 to Detroit (they hired UTSA's DL coach FFS). Could see us doing a deal with Tennessee, for instance, to grab their 3rd, then taking our highest OL/DL/WR/LB at 25

Davenport doesn't exactly coca my cola either, but at 19 I don't think anyone will.

The question is how much faith do the Cowboys have in their new OL? If Taco, Ealy, Tapper, Lawrence, and Gregory preclude them from taking Davenport, perhaps Tyron, Martin, Frederick, La'el, Flemming(started SB), Martin(3rd rounder), Looney is enough to keep them away from OL early?

I think this staff will only see WRs and LBs on the board when it comes time.

I went with LVE. We have very few bodies at LB. We have even fewer bodies that don't have major injury history. Lee at Will, LVE at Mike with Smith at Sam is pretty salty. Until Lee gets his annual injury. Then, we are left scrambling again. Like last year. If Lee does miss time again, who would be our Nickle LBs, Smith and Heath? Ugh. LVE is a 3 down LB and needs to be on our roster.
