According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, Packers linebacker Jake Ryan has been diagnosed with a torn ACL, which will end his season before it began. Ryan was carted off during practice Monday, and it took them a bit to get a clear look at the damage.

The 2015 fourth-rounder had developed into a regular starter (12 games last year), and leaves them thin in the middle of their defense alongside Blake Martinez.

The Packers have made “measurable progress” over the past few days in contract talks with Aaron Rodgers, Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports. General Manager Brian Gutekunst said Tuesday that the Packers have no timeline to get an extension completed. But both sides are motivated to get a deal done.

When the Packers placed right tackle Bryan Bulaga on the physically unable to perform list at the start of training camp, word was that he’d be ready for the regular season.

Bulaga’s gotten the green light for football work well ahead of that date, however. The Packers announced on Friday that Bulaga has been cleared to practice and will be activated from the PUP list in time to have limited participation in Friday’s practice.

No reason to think Bakhtiari misses much time, let alone ends up on IR. He rolled his ankle and was able to walk off, sounds like a sprain.

Bigger news this week in Packers injuries is that Bulaga is off the PUP already. He’s well ahead of schedule recovering from his ACL and should be good to go in week one.

Great news! I want the pack as close to full strength as possible. #No Excuses ;)

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that Bakhtiari has been diagnosed with a sprained left ankle. It is expected to keep Bakhtiari off the practice field for a while, but it does not appear to be an injury that would jeopardize his availability for the regular season.

Former FF poster Justis Mosqueda is writing for Optimum Scouting this year and posted this very interesting analysis on Aaron Rodgers and the Packers passing game: http://www.optimumscouting.com/news/aaron-rodgers-and-how-receivers-set-the-ceiling-fo

Basic idea is that Rodgers is uniquely talented at making plays on a shortened field in goal-to-goal situations. But since 2015, the Packers passing game has dropped off considerably outside the opposition's 10 yard line.

Mosqueda blames the drop-off in the Packers passing game on Rodgers' supporting cast, in particular the decline in the talent of his receivers from 2011 to 2015 and beyond.

He doesn't seem to expect the 2018 team will be much different. He wrote a similar analysis when Jimmy Graham was signed showing that Graham has been an elite red zone target and a mediocre target elsewhere on the field, matching the Packers passing game as average outside the red zone and elite within it: http://settingedge.com/jimmy-graham-will-help-the-packers-become-more-of-who-they-already-are
