Cheese Curds: Green Bay Packers Updates

Jimmy Graham came to Green Bay this offseason with the intention of rediscovering his All-Pro form from his days in New Orleans, but the Packers tight end admitted Friday that he's yet to deliver. Graham has tallied just two touchdown receptions this season, a far cry from last season's 10 with the Seattle Seahawks.

Graham: "I just want to win games. If I have one catch for two yards and we win, I don't care. But obviously it's not great when you're not helping us win, and that's what I see. My numbers suck."

Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers is still the best in the NFL at avoiding interceptions. Unfortunately, too often he’s avoiding interceptions at the expense of making productive plays.

We’ve noted before how Rodgers is throwing the ball away more than any other quarterback in the NFL, but there’s more to it than just that. Rodgers’ accuracy is hurting even when he isn’t trying to throw the ball away. In Sunday’s loss to the Bears, he twice missed open receivers for what should have been touchdown passes. He’s scattering the ball around the field in ways he hasn’t before, and the result is that Rodgers has thrown more incompletions than any other quarterback in the NFL.

Rodgers also avoids interceptions by taking sacks too often. In fact, if we add up every quarterback’s interceptions, incompletions, sacks and fumbles and compile them all into one stat we’ll call “bad plays,” Rodgers is actually the worst in the NFL.

Here are the quarterbacks ranked by the most bad plays in the 2018 season:
255 Aaron Rodgers
230 Case Keenum
223 Eli Manning
221 Jared Goff

That stat has no context.  A 1st and 10 throwaway is equivalent to a pick in the red zone....there are situations where a throwaway was the good play.  There are plenty of clear statistics and reasoning for how Rodgers has not been a top QB lately, this isn't one of them.

The Packers will place nose tackle Kenny Clark on injured reserve, Tom Pelissero of NFL Media reports. Clark was inactive for Sunday’s game against the Bears with an elbow injury. He does not need surgery, per Pelissero.

Clark, a first-round pick in 2016, had a breakout season. He made 55 tackles, six sacks. two fumble recoveries, a forced fumble and three pass breakups.

The Packers placed running back Aaron Jones on injured reserve, Tom Pelissero of NFL Media reports. Jones injured his knee in Sunday’s loss to the Bears. He finishes his season with 133 carries for 728 yards and eight touchdowns. He caught 26 passes for 206 yards and a touchdown.

Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers has appeared on the injury report in every week since Week One due to a knee injury. For Week 16, the Packers have disclosed another injury. Rodgers also has a groin injury. Although he fully participated in practice on Wednesday, perhaps the injury provides the basis for coach Joe Philbin’s hesitation to declare that Rodgers will start on Sunday against the Jets.

Rodgers has said he’ll play, but a groin injury can go in multiple different ways. On multiple past occasions for NFL players, a groin injury became hernia surgery. It’s too early to worry about that outcome for Rodgers. But if there’s any concern that this is more than a muscle pull, it’s all the more reason to shut Rodgers down for the rest of the season.

Another excuse to add to the list.  Makes it more believable when they throw their last two games to improve their draft position.  Has he blamed Philbin yet?  Jimmy Graham's broken thumb?
