As long as Ted Thompson is the GM, you’ll continue to see the same thing.

vike daddy
a quote from Matthew Stafford about Green Bay's defense they just faced, and how the Lions had it all anticipated: "We had some success because we knew what blitz’s or which blitz’s would be coming, especially on third down. The screen that almost went for the touchdown, we went to the line with 3 plays. If they were doing a middle blitz, which they did, we ran the screen. If they ran a slot blitz, we were running a bubble, if they weren’t running any, we had another play in mind. When they blitz the middle, they’ll drop one of their safeties close to the line, typically Dix because in dime or Nickel Burnett is usually up already anyway, for middle protection. If they brought their slot guy, they would slide Martinez over to cover for his blitz. So when Dix slid down, and both Perry & Matthew slid into an inside gap, we knew exactly what blitz was coming. That happened on almost all our 3rd down plays tonight".

SemperFeist
Packers released Martellus Bennett. Arguably the most overrated tight end in the NFL.

Heimdallr
How can a player "not disclose a medical issue" after getting at least 1 team physical upon signing and playing half a season??

Agreed. And I don't think they'll win that argument.
Cearbhall
Being cut before week 10 conveniently is just before the compensatory pick threshold. Players on a roster as of week 10 are players that count as qualifying free agent additions. This cut will mean that Bennett is no longer cancelling out the loss of Micah Hyde. The Packers can expect a 5th round pick from the loss of Hyde now. Ted Thompson is all about the compensatory picks. In the same way, the Vikings could gain a third by cutting Reiff, a sixth by cutting Remmers, a sixth by cutting Murray, or a 7th by cutting Keenum. All four of those players are easily worth the compensatory pick they cost the Vikings IMO. It is very possible that the Vikings will instead gain a third round pick a year later by losing Keenum in free agency.
swede700
The compensatory picks don't mean much when the players you pick with them suck...I think Aaron Jones is the first decent player he's used a compensatory pick for since Mike Daniels. vike daddy
Aaron Rodgers has said it has to “make sense” for him to return this year, meaning staying in contention is absolutely a factor. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2017/11/16/aaron-rodgers-good-being-back-on-the-practice-field/
vike daddy
The Packers are set to be without two running backs this weekend. Aaron Jones will miss the game with an MCL injury he suffered in last Sunday’s win and coach Mike McCarthy said on Friday that he expects Ty Montgomery will also miss the game. Montgomery aggravated a rib injury that he’s been dealing with for several weeks and has already kept him from playing in one game this season. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2017/11/17/packers-expect-to-be-without-ty-montgomery-sunday/
