I think Ivey's athleticism is exciting but I still would rather have Griffin over him.  Give me the better shooter with a NBA ready body who can also create over the turnover prone, bad shot taking athlete.  Ivey will be good, but when I am nitpicking at the top of the draft, I think AGJ is a better fit and a better prospect other than the injury history.  Maybe I am biased as the most I watched Ivey was against MSU twice and he took horrible shots and didn't keep the ball moving at all but I don't love his BB IQ.

I would still love for us to be able to trade Grant for a solid pick, like maybe to Memphis if they get that Lakers pick.  Or Portland's second pick.

Lol, I’d say my opinion on Ivey changed a little since March.  As it did with Griffin.  Could have had them both but like Duren as well.

Gabriele Procida at #36 was a very good pick as well, I read that he'll probably stay in Europe for another year or two but he reminds me a lot of Bogdan Bogdanovic.

I dont know much about him but I always like the high risk/reward types in the second.  We may never hear his name again or get lucky with some solid depth in a year or two.

This draft feels a lot like what I do on NBA2k.  Getting the young high potential guys in the draft.  Now hopefully they fill in the gaps properly.  A Bridges contract shouldn't interfere with resigning Cade or Ivey/Duren.  Might impact keeping Bey and Stewart but also those guys shouldn't be max players and should have room with whats coming off the books the next couple of years. Definitely a nice young core to watch develop.

Then I am guessing we bring Bagely back on a relatively cheap 1 or 2 year deal. Would likely give us a starting 5 of Cade, Ivey, Bey, Bridges, and Duren/Stew with a bench of Stew/Duren, Bagely, Diallo, Hayes, Olynyk, Joseph, Jackson, Lee, Livers. Given three of those bench players were starters last year this really improves our starting lineup and the depth dramatically.  If Hayes and Bagley improve some it really improves our depth.  If we could move Olynyk for a 3D wing off the bench it would be nice.

Then its just hoping Casey does the right thing.  Thats my biggest concern going forward.

i think casey said in his exit interview that if they were trying to win last year he would've shortened rotations so i'm somewhat optimistic we don't end up seeing joseph - edwards - diallo - key - bagley lineups

I think Stew can play the 4 next to Duren. I could see them not rolling that lineup out until later in the season. Stew has shown a lot of flashes that make me think he can hold up defensively at the 4. He switched well, he contests, he slides his feet. I think his 3 point shot will develop too. Pairing him with a big like Duren who can also switch onto smaller players in space will help. Stew is still pretty young and I don’t think it’s crazy to see him continuing to develop his defense. It usually takes young bigs awhile to find their footing defensively anyway. But they could also go after a FA 4 and all of these thoughts will be for not.

For Stewart to play the 4 regularly along side Duren, he will have to have some type of outside shot.  There were glimpses of it but it has to be consistent enough to not let his defender sag into the lane area.  I still think Stewart is better off as a bench big and matchup tool.  I am not sure he can guard guys like Giannis, Tatum, Bridges, KAT, Durant, AD etc for a whole game.  Anyone bigger who doesn't play with the ball in their hands or on the perimeter he could likely match up against well.

Who can?

Truth, but in general meaning athletic wings that step out which is about 1/2 or 3/4 of the PF in the league are more athletic than Stewart and play outside.  In the playoffs, almost all of the 4s were athletic wing players. I just don't know if we can win consistently with Stewart at the 4 as it would be a mismatch on both sides of the floor.

Stew from the last two years probably can’t play the 4 full time. I’ve seen enough flashes that lead me to believe he can get there. His quickness has improved a lot already and he’s still pretty young. His jump shot is pretty and he’s a solid FT shooter already. He’s shown flashes of the ability to stay in front of wings on the perimeter. I think his main defensive weakness is actually his post defense. He’s just not tall enough.

i don't think that by the time we're really ready to care about how to guard giannis in the playoffs that stewart will still be starting. or at least i hope not

Agreed.  I think he is a great big off the bench.  Hoping Duren can surpass him in the next year or two and we find a true stretch 4.
