Draft…

Pick #8…

OLB…Marcus Davenport…6-6” 265lbs…UTSA…

Aaron Rodgers…Matthew Stafford…Kirk Cousins…

When those are the three QBs in your division you need to be able to rush the passer or you have zero chance of beating these guys…add in the fact Fangio wants to be vanilla and only bring four on the vast majority of snaps you better have guys who can win one on one…Davenport has every trait Pace is looking for…his size and strength are evident on film where he shows the ability to bull rush OTs back but don’t think this guy is just a lump…Davenport also bring a real speed element to his game…he is without a doubt raw but given the improvements he made at the senior bowl I have a real belief that with proper coaching he could develop into a special pass rusher who combined with Floyd gives us a real young and explosive pair of pass rushers to build around.

***Bears trade #39 to TEN for #57 & #89***

The Titans have resources and know that adding talent around Mariota could lead them to success…I see them moving up for one of the WRs who fall out the 1st.

Pick #57…

OG…Braden Smith…6-6” 315lbs…Auburn…

Young QBs love talented WRs, great safety blanket TEs and quality RBs to take on some of the workload…but they will give all that up for a tough SOB who is going to keep a 300lb DL off him…if we want the best out of Trubisky we need to keep him upright and confident in the pocket…Smith is the exact type of OG we need to do that…his size, length and strength are very reminiscent of Kyle Long…he has a strong anchor in pass pro and can be a people mover in the run game…he also shows an excellent ability to pull and get out in front of runners which will be key for this offence…I see him sliding in at RG with Long at LG and Whitehair sticking long term at centre.

Pick #89…

DL…Nathan Sheperd…6-4” 315lbs…Fort Hays State…

More help for the front seven…Hicks and Goldman are so good they cover up a lot of sins…Unrein was probably better than expected last season too but boy oh boy if Hicks or Goldman go down we are in real trouble…RRH and Bullard have started coming on but neither have given me enough faith to lock one into the starting role…I think we need to add talent at the position and let three guys go for the one starting spot and then have the other two as pass rushing specialists…Sheperd is another guy who is all potential…with excellent size for a 5 tech he brings the pass rushing skills we have lacked from our #3 DL…his athletic ability jumps off the film and when he is consistent with his hands he is a load for sometimes two and three offensive linemen to handle at once…I see him as being a long time starter at the 5 tech spot who may need a year of seasoning but adds pass rush straight off the bat.

Pick #105…

OLB…Ade Aruna…6-6” 263lbs…Tulane…

More pass rush help…out roster is so depleted at OLB right now I don’t just see us taking two OLBs in this draft I think it is essential…right now along side Floyd we have Lynch who is all potential & Acho who is an excellent locker room & ST guy but you don’t want to rely on him as a pass rusher…adding Davenport would be big but not enough if someone like Floyd was to go down…Aruna is in many ways a poor mans version of Davenport…outstanding size and length combined with outstanding athletic traits but not much football experience and needs to be developed properly…given Fangio’s past with linebackers I am willing to give him guys who have a ton of potential and let him go to work…you start having 4 6-6” OLBs who can rotate and 3 of which who can put their hand on the ground in Nickel along with those DLs and suddenly you have a ton of guys who can disrupt QBs in a whole bunch of different ways.

Pick #115…

WR…J’Mon Moore…6-3” 208lbs…Missouri…

I feel losing Cam Meredith wasn’t as huge a deal as some made it out to be…clearly they did not have faith in the knee and the price was steep for a guy who might be the 4th or 5th target on the team…that said we need depth at the WR spot with both presumed starting WRs…Robinson & White coming back from injury…Moore reminds me a lot of Cam in terms of size and skill set but I would say Moore is more explosive and natural in his movements…he excels at the catch with YAC which will be important in this offence…I feel he could really push White from day one if he puts the work in.

Pick #145…

CB…Tony Brown…6-0” 198lbs…Alabama…

I would have liked to address the CB spot a little earlier than this in an ideal world but we have some solid depth in Cooper behind our two outside starters…which I think we struggle is at Nickelback…Callahan has been a little up and down over the last season and a bit banged up so finding a talented nickel would be a real good pickup…Brown is the typical Alabama DB…he isn’t an outstanding cover guy but he is extremely physical and will hit you in the mouth at the LOS and in run support…Brown could be a nickel/safety hybrid and will be an ace on special teams.

Pick #181…

S…Siran Neal…6-0” 205lbs…Jacksonville State…

I am really happy with Jackson and Amos as our starting safeties and hope Bush can finally take a step forward but we need to find some more safety depth incase someone goes down…Neal is a solid all round safety who really fits the combo safety that Fangio has always preferred for his defences…Neal is a jack of all trades master of non-type but he could play a little nickel as well given his experience.

Pick #224…

ILB…Andre Smith…6-0” 238lbs…North Carolina…

This one is a risky pick but could turn out to be an excellent one…Smith was lost for most of the 2017 season due to a knee injury although he started out strong with 21 tackles and an INT in his first two games…in 2016 tho he had 113 tackles with 6 for loss, a sack, a fumble and 3 PBUS…dude played on a bad NC defence but looked explosive and played with toughness, instincts and intensity…if he can get back to that and the knee checks out then he would be an excellent depth and special teams pick up.

This is a mock that sits well with me.

Obviously a Davenport fan.

Normally I would love Smith, but he seems kind of like a Sitton type mauler. I don't watch guards a ton so I may have missed it but did he do well in space? I kinda had him pegged as a phone booth type player. Nagy might not utilize pulls as often as in KC but he did a lot when he was calling plays.

Shepard is a lot like Bryan - raw but a pretty tough matchup for any OL. He can play anywhere on the line too. When we go in nickel I could see Floyd - Bullard - Shepard - Lynch/RRH being a pretty common grouping. A lot of athleticism there. Or if Shepard surprisingly takes a starting spot then RRH could kick in to 3T there.

Aruna went completely under my radar until he showed out at the Combine. I want to see where he is in 2 years. With that burst he might get some chances to rush with pure speed. I'd like to see him in a wide-9.

I LOVE pairing Brown with Donatell. He has a ton of physical gifts and honestly will step in and could probably be our third best safety if he is moved around. Kid tackles like he's angry. With his physical tools, he should immediately be a hell of a gunner. His measureables are pretty similar to Gilmore too.

No idea on Neal or Smith.
