We can find a starting guard in the late second.

We could find a starting guard in the 3rd...... remember where we found Elfien? This interior line class is better than last years.

Of course the athletic/talent level will be less, but remember Elfien had probably one hell of a ugly combine.

For lineman round 2 on I like that may be available... Austin Corbett and Alex Cappa are very high on my list.

Seems like the Vikes want technical savvy OL who can move in space anyway, you don't need to invest high picks in those players. I think it's crucial to get an OL by round 3, I just don't think the Vikes need to reach for one at this point.

I’m all right with this pick. Had to read up and watch stuff quick, but my initial impression is good. The guy is physical, gets turnovers, is quicker than his 40, and plays bigger than he is. Potential as an outside or inside corner, should become a starter at either spot. This gives us a lot of flexibility going forward with Alexander and Waynes. It’s a smart play that keeps the cap in mind, and the guy is a fit on our defense. Oh, and let’s not dismiss that he has return ability! Sherels is aging and isn’t a very good corner, yet he is able to take up a roster spot because of his return ability. I love Sherels, but having a talent like Hughes on the team who provides vastly better talent at CB along with return skills that could possibly match that of Marcus as a KR/PR potentially frees up a roster spot.

I’m one of the many who viewed OL as our biggest need, and it still is, but acting like the draft is over already is silly. All the guys we could have taken on the O-line at pick #30 are still on the board! We have the ability to move up to get one of those guys if we feel like they are worth it, and it wouldn’t surprise me to see that happen. It’s almost as if people don’t remember that we got Elflein in the 3rd round just a year ago, and how’d that work out? Let’s not pull out the pitchforks just yet... i’d Be willing to put money on a new lineman joining the team in less than 24 hours (and if not i’ll gladly eat a hearty plate of crow). We need to have a little faith in the front office, they’ve played a huge role in growing our team to where it is now, and have been fairly solid drafting. While I was all in for a lineman, I am not upset at this pick because we still have plenty of draft left to get one of the many quality guys left out there.

This pick feels like adding another lock on your door, when your window is broken.

But what’s to stop you from fixing your window as well? Draft’s not over, and the guys that were on the board at 30 are still there. We have the flexibility to move and take one still if we feel the need.

Yes, I would have been fine with Ragnow. Price and Daniels also, but I understand the Hughes pick. BPA at a position of need that is a scheme fit.

Love Hernadez, not a scheme fit as much of a badass he is.

Love Daniels, like @Krauser stated, he probably is best served as a center.

Williams we truely have no clue on his medicals or how well he would actually do at guard. Obviously many teams aren’t liking something about him.

After those 3 a lineman did not make sense in the first round.

we could use DT.

Hurst is rumored to fall hard

Shepard is a big reach.

pass rushers?

Landry isn’t really a fit, but just would be fun.

The gap between Hughes and a second round CB that would eventually be CB #2 is far greater than the Gap between the remaining lineman that are scheme fits.

Has Rick every done that for an OL? His record drafting OL is not stellar. I'd argue that's because ' you can find OL late'... Which has not worked

The team can still fix a window. The problem is they have more than one window that needs fixing IMO.

I like Hughes just fine and I'm in favor of drafting BPA.

Scouting report

Chris Trapasso: Super-charged plant-and-drive specialist with serious bounce and aggressive ball skills. Smaller framed which hurts him against blockers and bigger wideouts. Dynamic return ability showcases his physical ability.

So one? One time? Nice track record.

I wouldn't count Elflein as one just yet. He is still not above average. The team needs some above average offensive linemen. If the strategy is to have your best offensive linemen be someone that isn't above average I disagree with the GM's strategy and would like to see him replaced.

After declaring a year early for the draft, Hughes put on a show at the NFL Combine. Out of the cornerback group, he had the second-most bench reps, tied for the fourth-longest broad jump and had the third-fastest 3-cone drill. Everyone expected a faster 40-time but he was still solid at 4.53 seconds. If you watch his game film his actual speed is pretty evident.
