Yes.  He didn't luck into it. Casserly played it perfectly. Most GMs would've traded him for peanuts. Ours certainly would've. And then would've thrown in an extra 2nd rounder for good measure

And yet, he's QB'ed a SB winning team. We're looking at hindsight here my man.

Nope. But if that guy had gone on and cemented the position for us for years to come, I'd have paid it. Remember, we were a botched snao from the NFCC game with that "backup"

Not at all. He had a large part to do with the mess we were in. True Free Agency caught us and nailed us and he didn't react quickly enough. But again, he had righted the ship and we were on the right path. Then Snyder comes in and fires him and keeps Norv.

Yeah, Casserly = Ernie in the mid to late 90s. Wonderful, Brad Johnson won a super bowl for the Bucs while we lost 3 draft picks Is that supposed to make me feel better?

We could’ve drafted a qb at some point to develop with any of those three 1st round picks he traded away instead of trading for 3 draft picks for a qb.

Ah well, it’s whatever we’re not going to change it but imo Casserly is overrated.

Brad got us to a whisker length of the NFCC game. And as you said, its not his fault that Brad didn't stay. And again, you don't like Champ Bailey and Lavar Arrington? We got them and the entire Saints draft in 1999 because of Casserly.

I disagree that he is. I think he's a decent GM that can be great at times. Certainly not the best GM I've ever seen. But he's one of the better ones.

And yes, we probably should get back to the OP's topic, yes?

Confirming @ProFootballTalk report about Bruce Allen's interest in returning to the Raiders. The interest, by the way, is mutual.
Not saying it will happen. Just saying possibility is more than just rumor.

Say it does happen and Bruce goes to Oakland. Anyone have any early candidates to replace him?

Apparently Dan Snyder loves Eric Schaffer. He’s been rumored to be a target of the NFL office in some sort of executive role. My guess is that if Bruce Allen were to head west, they’d elevate Schaffer to keep him around.

Isn’t he more of a capologist than a scout?

Yes, but the same can be said about Bruce Allen. He is less of a personnel guy and more involved in the business. My guess is they’ll keep Doug Williams/Kyle Smith/Alex Santos as the personnel guys in charge of the roster along with Jay Gruden and Eric Schaffer to round out the decision making brain trust

This tells me:

- the stadium deal is done and expect an announcement before next season begins

- Allen getting out before he is fired as that’s what politicians do

- poor raiders. Their draft was terrible. Giving Gruden a 10 year deal might have been foolish. How many good coaches have we seen implode when they exercise authority over personnel decisions as well?

- the nfl is the most incestious business- it’s about who you know more so than accomplishments

Yea I’ll never forgive him for that

Obviously I love him for that, but it doesn’t just absolve him of responsibility as being the first GM who sent the Redskins down the path of being a mediocre franchise ever since and going from the good to great franchise it had been from Lombardi until the 91-92  Super Bowl.

What? First of all, McKenzie does the work on the draft picks but Gruden is involved but McKenzie does the scouting work.

I think the raiders had a great draft. They need a future starting LT because of Penn’s age and they got one with Miller.

They got and interior DL in round 2 who fits their scheme perfectly in Hall.

They got an OL to develop in round 3 who has a lot of talent but needs development with Parker.

They got Arden Key and Nelson who both will be major contributors. Key is a steal in round 4 as long as he keeps his head on straight.

Maurice Hurst will be a starter or a 3rd down nickel pass rush specialist.

Victor and Ateman as their last two picks were extremely solid!

Victor was pegged as a mid round talent before his knee injury and he played a little out of shape last year because of it. Ateman is a big strong athletic WR, he’s not a speedster but out fights Dbs to catch a lot of 50/50 balls.
