It's also a question how stable our situation is.

Is Doug here long term? Because if he's on the hot seat, then no way Kliff comes here in a lame duck situation, possibly.

If so, Will Kliff be tied to Doug?

What about Caldwell?

Part of the appeal of coming here is he might get a hand in picking his own guy, but how valuable is that if there's a turnover at the top (either coaching or GM), as either of those changing can have an effect on his job and the QB

Yeah.  It's definitely gonna turn people off this job if it has the feel of a lame duck situation.

It goes right to the top, where it's going to be tough to find a top tier candidate if Coughlin is going to overshadow them the whole time.  And if it appears that the new GM is going to have Marrone foisted on them without a lot of say in the matter.  Then on down, to where it'll be tough to lure top coordinator talent if it's not really clear what's going on with the power structure at the top and how secure it is.  And then down through the head coach, if Marrone is staying...it's hard to look at that and see a massive leash and rock solid stability if things don't get off to a good start again next year.

Tricky situation.  Lots of murky details that aren't going to be ideally appealing to top candidates with multiple suitors.
