By: Brendan Sugrue | 3 hours agoIt’s been nearly a year and a half since Zach Miller last played a down for the Chicago Bears, suffering a horrific knee injury that nearly cost him his leg against the Saints in 2017. But his determination continues to inspire players and fans alike, as it was announced on Chicagobears.com Monday that Miller will be presented the Bears 2018 Ed Block Courage Award Tuesday at a luncheon at Manzo’s Banquets in Des Plaines, IL.

The Ed Block Courage Award is given to a player on each of the 32 NFL teams who “best exemplifies a commitment to sportsmanship and courage and serves as an inspiration in the locker room.” Recipients are voted by their teammates.

Miler suffered his knee injury on October 29, 2017 during the Bears-Saints game at the Superdome when he awkwardly went down to the ground in the end zone, resulting in a dislocated knee and torn popliteal artery. Miller underwent nine different surgeries to repair the damage and continues to rehab with the Bears. Even though he’s been sidelined, Miller has made an enormous impact on his teammates. “He’s like an older brother to me,” Mitchell Trubisky said to Chicagobears.com in October. “To have someone that truly believes in you, there’s no substitute for it. So I just think he’s just so genuine in the way he believes in other people and how much he loves this game and loves being part of this family.”

Previous Bears winners include Kyle Long in 2017 and Robbie Gould in 2016.

Ed Block was a former head trainer with the Baltimore Colts from 1954-1977 who previously served in World War II. After he retired, community members established the award in his honor for Colts players who demonstrated commitment in sportsmanship and courage. The award later would be given out to a player on every team. A complete list of all 32 winners can be found on Edblock.org.
