What The Lions Need To Finish Strong

Just Want A Title

Recommended Posts

The various game day comments have a lot of stuff that talk what needs to change and/or what the Lions need to do to finish strong but it seems like it would make a good discussion in a separate thread.  That said, my take on this:

Offense:

1.  Be consistent--The offense, despite having a lot of weapons, has never really seems to be firing on all cylinders for a full game.  Their third-quarter woes are baffling.

2. More Jameson Williams--He is doing everything he can to earn more targets.  His speed and explosiveness could and should wreck coverage schemes

3.  Less reliance on "security blankets"--Jared Goff needs to be more comfortable spreading the ball around.  He was feeding Sam LaPorta when they were bracketing ARSB but not looking at Jameson Williams missing some very good opportunities.  Donovan Peoples-Jones should get some targets at some point also.

Defense:

1.  Better safety play--Kerby Joseph continues to be inconsistent and isn't really playing as well as he did at the end of his rookie season.  Tracy Walker, who isn't a "Center Field" safety needs play to the level that he has shown he is capable of playing at.

2.  D-Line disruption--This group has done well against the run.  However, they have not been good at shedding blocks and getting to the QB.  There isn't a lot of pressure coming from the interior or the EDGE positions and is usually to slow to develop.  A break-out by Josh Pascal along with Bruce Irvin's speed would create a significant improvement

3.  Put Jerry Jacobs in the right role--He is getting eaten-alive when he is matched up against the WR1 on opposing offenses.  The slow rotation by the safeties amplifies this problem.  He is good against WR2/WR3 and that is where he needs to stay.
