Maybe we can change the title to Self Employment or Entrepreneurship? Always wanted to get into small business/my own business, but not sure where to start. Any recommendations/tips? Would highly recommend it but obviously a lot of factors go into that. I started my own consulting company (Just me) almost 3 years ago now. After several months of working as much as I can with the uncertainty of the next paycheck, it's been an easier schedule with a lot of nice tax benefits. Biggest part of making it work though, is networking. Take every networking opportunity you can before making the jump, at least in the IT Consulting field... x0x
I ran a landscaping company in the summer before I retired. Good money and mostly cash. It was all legitimate on paper. Running a business on the up is brutal and frankly I think contributes greatly to bankruptcies. I had 2 guys that knew what they were doing, both on welfare for most of the year. Sometimes I hired 2-3 students and paid them minimum wage (but no tax loss). I had 22-28 clients which were almost exclusively cottagers. Biggest property was like 2 football fields. And so many hedges on most.
