onejayhawk
I should have done this last week when Alex Smith was Offensive Player of the Week. For week 2 Chris Jones was Defensive Player of the Week. A 3-4 DE with three sacks is insane. Add 2 FF and an Int. If you want proof that PFF is clueless, they don't list him. https://arrowheadaddict.com/2017/09/20/chris-jones-wins-afc-defensive-player-week/ J
onejayhawk
Kareem Hunt wins a big one. He's the first rookie to win Offensive Player of the Month since Mike Anderson in 2000. they only others are Barry Sanders and Edgerin James. On a side note, Ryan Succop won for Special Teams. onejayhawk
Not an official award, but recognition. Alex Smith is starting to be seriously considered as the best offensive player in the league. https://www.si.com/nfl/2017/10/09/nfl-week-5-awards-alex-smith-chiefs Note that Benroth is a goat this week. Here's another: http://www.yardbarker.com/nfl/articles/alex_smith_the_evolution_of_nfls_real_mvp/s1_12680_24739949 And the flagship: http://www.chiefs.com/news/article-2/Alex-Smith’s-MVP-Candidacy-Gains-Steam-After-Sunday-Night’s-Victory/80a50803-7635-4a93-b819-c5c5a3e56590 J
onejayhawk
Not exactly an award, but recognition. 538 is a premier statistics analysis site. They are saying this is the best team since the Super Bowl Team in 1971. This may be hard to digest, but Smith is having one of the best starts to a season of any quarterback in NFL history. In almost every major offensive category — passing completion rate, passer rating, adjusted yards per attempt and interceptions — Smith ranks among the best. He's 4th after P Manning '13, Brady '07, Culpepper '04 and before Rodgers '11 and Warner '00 and Matt Ryan last year. Four MVPs on just this list. https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/the-last-time-the-chiefs-were-this-good-they-won-a-super-bowl/ J
onejayhawk
Another award to a rookie. Butt Kicker was named ST player of the Month. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2017/11/02/harrison-butker-named-afc-special-teams-player-of-the-month/ The 18 field goals were the most by any rookie in a month in league history. That's kicking it. J
onejayhawk
Again, not exactly an award, but recognition. The Chiefs lead the league with three players on the Top-25-Under-25 list--Hill, Hunt and Peters. https://www.arrowheadpride.com/2017/11/16/16665134/kansas-city-chiefs-lead-the-way-with-3-players-on-top-25-under-25-list J

onejayhawk
There is a great article at the flagship about how this offense compares to the D ick Vermeil offense built around Trent Green, Priest Holmes/Larry Johnson, Tony Gonzalez and a prime OL. http://www.chiefs.com/news/article-2/Record-Watch-A-Look-at-Some-Historic-Milestones-the-Chiefs-Might-Reach-This-Season/f4cd8222-3eda-4912-977f-6b1d63919a12 This is notable MOST RUSHING YARDS, ROOKIE, SEASON 1. 1,121 Joe Delaney 1981 2. 875 Abner Haynes 1960 3. 866 Robert Holmes 1968 4. 801 Mike Garrett 1966 5. 800 Kareem Hunt 2017 J
onejayhawk
Not a lot going on during the slide. However, against Oakland Alex Smith has new or tied personal bests: Passing yards - 3507 vs 3502 (2016) Yards per attempt - 8.0, also in 2012 TD passes - 23, also in 2012 J
onejayhawk
Kareem Hunt blows by Joe Delaney to set a new rookie RB standard with 1201 yards. The team record is 1789 by Larry Johnson. Hunt also sets a new rookie record with 1641 yards from scrimmage, beating Abner Haynes 1451. He is now top 20 in history, ahead of Adrian Peterson, LT, Hershel Walker and Earl Campbell. His current pace will land him #7, ahead of Marshal Faulk and Clinton Portis. The team record is 2287 by Priest Holmes. Only Priest, Larry Johnson and JC are ahead of Hunt. With 9 combined TD he is top five among Chiefs rookies. The team record is 12, co-held by Tyreek Hill last season. Alex Smith pads personal bests with 3738 yards and 25 TD. onejayhawk
Alex Smith throws for 4000 yards, while Hunt Kelce and Hill all have 1000 yard seasons. The only other team with all four was the Chargers in 1981--Fouts,Muncie, Joiner, Winslow. Two HoF players and a WR with 12,000 yards. Butker's five FGs gives him the franchise record for made field goals in a season--36 and Player of the Week honors for the second time (also week 8). https://sports.yahoo.com/nfl-players-week-week-16-144233321.html J
onejayhawk
Now official. Alex Smith established a record for most seasons with 3000 yards and less than 10 Interceptions. As noted by NFL Football Operations, Smith is one game away from a fifth straight season of at least 3,000 yards passing and fewer than 10 interceptions. That will be an all-time record. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2017/12/30/alex-smith-will-make-history-on-sunday/ J
onejayhawk
Kareem Hunt won the NFL rushing title with just one carry. It went 35 years for a TD. The score was his 8th rushing TD of the season. His total of 11 TD is third best in team rookie history. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2017/12/31/kareem-hunts-one-carry-enough-to-win-nfl-rushing-title/ J
