EirePacker Posted April 26 Share Posted April 26 This sim expansion followed the same model as the Texans' expansion draft, selecting either 30 players from the expansion pool or a lower number of players whose contracts must surpass 38% of the cap. The Irish Wolfhounds expansion team was created in 2020; I've tracked its previous moves, including coaching staff hiring, Trades, Claims, FA, Draft, and UDFA activities, in an Excel document. This new thread is being created because edits, etc., on posts in the previous thread have made it challenging to follow the team's moves without access to the Excel document. Some simple guidelines I've been following since the team came into existence in 2020: Coaching staff members can be cherry-picked from the unemployed or those employed at a lower coaching position; for example, OCs can be hired as HCs. Though ideally done live, drafting should be done as reasonably possible, considering the 6-hour time zone (the draft usually gets going at 2 a.m. here). The team can adopt IRL trades and signings in Free Agency, except for players resigning from their original team. EirePacker Posted April 26 Author Share Posted April 26 2024 Coaching Staff Head Coach Eric Bienemy was removed after the 2023 season (which took long enough), while Defensive Coordinator Jarod Mayo was appointed Head Coach of the New England Patriots. Once the IRL coaching cycle was completed, the Wolfhounds were left with two candidates remaining: Bobby Slowik, OC Texans Frank Smith, OC Dolphins After much deliberation, the Wolfhounds appointed Texans Offensive Coordinator Bobby Slowik as the new Head Coach of the Irish Wolfhounds on a four-year contract. Slowik brings Texans quarterback coach Jarrod Johnson onto his staff as Offensive coordinator. Slowik also brings Buccaneers quarterback coach Thad Lewis onto his staff as passing game coordinator while the team still reviews its options for a new running game coordinator. Coach Slowik was quick to fill the now vacant Defensive Coordinator position. Baltimore Ravens pass game coordinator Chris Hewitt joins the team as defensive coordinator to fill the shoes of newly appointed Patriots Head Coach Jarod Mayo. Hewitt also brings 49ers inside Linebackers coach Johnny Holand as his run game coordinator and Eagles defensive backs coach Christian Parker as his pass game coordinator. Marvin Harrison and Olumuyiwa Fashanu made up my tier 1 players; both were drafted before pick 12 at 1.04 and 1.11. Tier 2 consisted of Joe Alt, Malik Nabers, Taliese Fuaga, Dallas Turner and Quinyon Mitchell. Alt and Naber both went before Wolfound's pick, which left me with a choice of Fuaga, Turner, or Mitchell at pick 12. After signing Danielle Hunter on a two-year deal in free agency and investing early picks in George Karlaftis and Tuli Tuipolutu over the past years, Turner seemed like an inefficient use of draft capital. The same applies to Mitchell after drafting Christian Gonzalez in the first round last year. That left Taliese Fuaga as the potential top option for the Wolfhounds. With Rashawn Slater entrenched at LT and worries about the health of RT Jack Conklin, Fuaga met both a need for the team and was the top option available. ********************************************************************************** The Wolfhounds' next pick was 2.44. After selecting Fuaga, the Wolfhounds still had 15 players with a first-round grade. The last players of Tier 2, Turner and Mitchell, were picked up soon after Fuaga. By the time pick 44 came around, 12 of the 13 remaining players the team had a first-round grade on had been selected. The last remaining player was Oregon interior offensive lineman Jackson Powers Johnson. *********************************************************************************** The Wolfhounds' next pick was 3.99. With 0 players with a day 1 grade remaining, the Wolfhounds turned to day two prospects. On the Wolfhound big board, players with a day two grade were divided into three tiers. When the Wolfhounds were on the clock at pick 3.99, the team had one player with a day two tier 1 grade remaining: Wide Receiver Troy Franklin Oregon. *********************************************************************************** At 4.102, the Wolfhounds had 14 players remaining, with a day 2 grade remaining on their board. Denver called, offering picks 4.121 and 4.136 for picks 4.102. The Wolfhounds accepted. *********************************************************************************** At 4.112, The Wolfhound's highest-ranked player was Jaden Hicks, Safety from Washington St, but the team's Safety room is considerably strong, so the team passed on him to take RB Jaylen Wright, their last RB with a day two grade from Tennessee to upgrade a weaker RB room. ************************************************************************************ At pick 4.121, Hicks was still on the board, so the team felt the value was there and submitted the pick. ************************************************************************************ At pick 4.136, the team was onto its day three graded players and again divided them into three tiers.
