True, but most of the time if a TE is catching around 30 passes in college that will translate into at least that much in the nfl or more considering the nfl plays 3 to 5 more games in a season.

If we assume a straight conversion: 30 receptions / 12 games(in college) * 16 games (in NFL) = 40 receptions

Of course, a straight conversion may not work since NFL teams have better receivers across the board than a college team does. As a recent example, a guy we liked when he came out Levine Toilolo:

Numbers plummeted in the pros ... his career numbers in the pros were half as many receptions or worse in four of the five years he's been in the league. That's in part due to the fact he plays on the same team as Julio Jones.

Now, Jeremy Sprinkle has an advantage that the Redskins don't have an All Pro receiver like Julio on the field. He has a disadvantage that he's the 3rd tight end on the team so there aren't that many opportunities. Unless Vernon Davis gets severely hurt or retires after this season, Sprinkle will have spent three quarters of his rookie contract getting little to no playing time.

That’s not really a fair comparison, the falcons don’t even throw to him. They have Hopper who’s like a Jordan Reed type, Toilolo is basically just a blocker.

So, it depends. If Sprinkle is Rafael’s going to go out on patterns and just be used as a 3rd TE/blocker then yeah his production won’t be much but if he takes over for Davis in a few years then he’ll probably catch around or over 30 passes a game but he’s never going to be Jordan Reed if that’s whatbyiure looking for.

Austin Hooper was drafted in 2016, Toilolo's fourth season. Remember, Toilolo was supposed to be the heir apparent to Tony Gonzalez.

First off, with regards to the first bolded, wha???

Second, with regards to the second bolded, 30 passes a game?!? (this one I know what you meant, but I had to tease you anyway :D )

Third, a blocking tight end isn't worth much anymore. Again, the pass game is where the action is at. If the coaching staff doesn't trust a tight end to run out into patterns but just stay home and block, he's essentially just a guy and a waste of a draft pick. Yes, a blocking only TE drafted in the 5th is a waste of a draft pick.

Now, maybe Sprinkle shows more this season. Right now, he's a JAG at a position that the Redskins use heavily and likely need to figure out the long term plan at since Reed is made of glass and Vernon Davis is getting to the end of his career.

I means Davis, the R is above the D on the keyboard so I guess autocorrect got me and I didn’t notice it.

Yeah, and I never said Sprinkle was gong to catch near 30 passes this year, I said he could in the future when Davis is gone, maybe after this year or after next year.
