Not sure what all this means or why it was done. Timing seems really strange. Something had to have gone down. Hopefully we'll know more soon!
fretgod99 638
Some speculation as to the reasons for the firing. Apparently Gettleman doesn't have a particularly good relationship with a lot of the players. http://www.panthers.com/news/article-2/Examining-why-Panthers-parted-ways-with-Dave-Gettleman/6b8b96da-b6ed-4814-8ca2-29bf7542aa17
James 568
Surprised by this, especially the timing, but the reasons speculated so far make sense. Though I agree with a lot of the sort-of "hardball" moves he's made (cutting Smith/Williams especially), it seems clear now that he didn't handle them with any sort of tact. The thought that the same behavior could've led to Thomas Davis and/or Greg Olsen moving on from the team is a scary one.
fretgod99 638
I really think it's the respect/tact thing. Richardson seems huge on the honor thing. The players really matter to him. He can't let someone else sully that reputation and especially not now with guys as beloved as Davis and Olsen.
Mr. bDoDDleS 212
So I've seen a LOT of anger to the bringing back of Marty Hurney. I can see their anger, but so far he isn't full-time. Funny thing is I had a guy on reddit try and tell me that the Cam and Kuechly draft picks were 'no-brainers'. When most draft experts had Gabbert ahead of Cam, and had other players rated higher. Mr. bDoDDleS 212
I can really see Hurney getting the 'full time' job though. Even though I think Ryan Cowden will be in heavy consideration.
