x0x
The 49ers were the better team over the Giants but the game-plan for New York to take away the ball from the opposing offense nearly beat the 14-2 49ers in the regular season and in the NFC Championship the infamous hit on Montana late fumble by Craig got the Giants into the Super Bowl where they stifled the Bills offense and ultimately won via missed field goal. However the would be match-up of the 49ers is an all-time question. Presume it's Montana in the starting position. The match-ups we have with the Bills and 49ers previously was in 1989 regular season they were beaten 21-10 by the Young-lead 49ers that day. In 1993, Montana would play the Kelly-led Bills and won 23-7. Of course we know how the 93 AFC Title game went but that game was in Buffalo and Montana played the first half only after an additional round. Many Bills fans have argued the 49ers would have been a better match-up and we'd go to a shootout but I think San Fran would have won rather comfortably. The NFC had tougher defenses and in a shoot-out scenario I think the 49ers with Montana make less mistakes. How about you?
tom cody
I think the 49ers would have won this game as well.
NFLExpert49
Why presume Montana is in the starting position? Leonard Marshall broke his throwing hand.

TecmoSuperJoe
Either way. The 1990 49ers team wasn't as good as the 1989 team despite the same record. The run game was especially a problem with Craig past his prime. That Buffalo Bills team was the best of the Marv Levy squads, and wouldn't have gone down without a tough fight.
