Iamcanadian Posted October 18, 2017 Share Posted October 18, 2017 I would have to include the old Green Bay Packers under Lombardi. Their defense was awesome as was the Giants from that era. I think the Pittsburgh defense of their SB winners was sensational after inventing the Cover 2 defense and I would give honourabe mention to two men who created still used defenses, Al Davis for his bump and run defense and Don Shula for his zone defense. After all, Shula has an undefeated season in his resume. Dallas' defense under Tom Landry was nothing to sneeze at either. Ditto, for the purple people eaters of Minny and Buffalo's defense which lost in 4 SB's. I do not think you can really separate out the best of these defenses, but I would have to give the edge to defenses that dominated for an era and produced multiple SB winners over a one time season.
