WNBA thread

I been watching the WNBA for a long time. Got into it when it was so easy to bet on and kind of started to like it. But this whole K.Clark stuff is insufferable. It’s on both sides. Yes, these woman are jealous. Wow what a shocker on that. Girls mostly can’t be friends with other woman because of jealousy. It was bound to happen. No they shouldn’t bow down to her and treat her like she’s their savior. Yes, every little thing such as a hard foul and all this other stuff is blown out of porportion. 

Really disagree with the last part from the above guys post. Clark will not impact the players bank accounts. She’s not gonna cause the pay scale to go up. She alone won’t cause TV contracts to go up. It will always be a league that heavily relies on the NBA to survive cause the average cost of tickets/cost of the WNBA league pass and so much more are so low.

But she already has caused it.  They are already getting more attention and more TV viewership.  The Aces are all getting more money from the city because of the increased viewership.  Is it all on Clark? No, but her following from college is the primary source of the increased viewership and in turn more TV revenue.  

if you want to talk tickets, look at how much a ticket is for a Fever game.  Both at home and on the road.  Its more expensive by far to see them than to sit courtside at a Pistons game right now.

Also... why do they have chartered flights now? What do you think her voice on the matter did for that?

It's not hyperbole to say Clark has already increased the value of the league in a way that has and will put more money into players pockets.

They have charter flights finally because for years the players have been complaining. For years the players have been positing on their social media the conditions of them laying down on chairs waiting for their flights. To give Clark any credit for that is ******* wild.

For sure.  The fact there is a thread here is a sign of that.  A bunch of (I am assuming) guys for the most part chatting about women's basketball was a joke a few years ago. The league is getting attention and that comes with more TV revenue and ticket sales and jersey/merch sales.  Which all will help funnel it back to the women.  It reminds me of how the NBA was dying and then Bird and Magic had a huge college national championship game that carried over to them in the NBA.  Then Jordan came and took the league to a whole new level increasing salaries and endorsement deals.  Clark and Reese are the Bird/Magic but Clark is also their MJ at the same time.  The college rivalry with Reese was must see TV.  She is bringing excitement to the league and all will benefit in the long run.

They didn't have them until Clark came to the league with additional ad revenue.  They didn't have them because the league didn't make enough money to provide it.  They couldn't have a league with all of the eyes finally on it seeing the reason those eyes are on it flying coach with the general public.

What? Charter flights were a thing last year in the WNBA. It They provided it last year to teams that had to play back to back games. Now every team has access to them. It had nothing to do with Clark and everything to do with doing the right thing for these players.

Ticket sales up 93% league wide. Fever ticket sales up 13x that of last year. Ticket prices for Fever road games at an all time high.  The women's national championship game out drew the men's by 10M viewers. The Fever had most of their games only on Facebook last year and now 36 of 40 will be on ESPN.  If you don't think that will have an impact on the other players salaries and marketability, you are sadly mistaken.  Its not 1995 anymore, the women's game is entertaining (always was but is better) and men finally are realizing it and tuning in and CC is a big reason why.

Even Reese is only a name because of Clark. Every time she gets brought up it's because of something she did with CC or when she's whining on Twitter. Now, she's parlayed that into being a name, and even a small draw I'd assume, but without CC she's irrelevant.

Charter flights were not a thing last year.  They went into effect about two weeks ago. The New York Liberty got in trouble for doing it because it was an unfair advantage that other teams couldn't afford.

Eh, she was the best player on a national championship team.  Sure CC being the one she beat brought more attention and made her bigger but at the same time every hero needs a villain and Reese made the CC saga in college that much more interesting and news worthy.  I know people like to hate on her but she is not wrong in saying that she is also part of the surge of interest in women's basketball.  If people didn't have someone to hate on, then it would be boring and not news worthy.

But hey it’s cause of Clark am I right 

So they had them for back to backs.  And that was brand new last year.  Now they have them for all, and yes it was the eyes on Clark at normal airports early on that pushed it.

Being the best player on a title team in women's college hoops doesn't mean much. Her fame skyrocketed once she taunted CC. She has capitalized on that villain persona, made the most of it to the point she's probably a draw herself, but CC made her.
