Buddyboy
The real "wild west" lasted about 20 years in various parts of 19th century America. Hollywood has stretched it for close to a century. The Old West died in Buffalo Bill's Wild West show in NYC. The History Channel drama Texas Rising has borrowed a century of cinema cliches and mixed it with Buffalo Bill entertainment. Real history this is not. Second rate propaganda, maybe.

Interesting critique. I might watch it.
Buddyboy
If you respect history and the role of Texas in American life, this is a sideshow. First rate cast, careful staging, fact free.
tom cody
That whole era has played a big role in what Texas has become, to bad this show appears to be making a mockery of it.
THE DUKE
If it's a scripted show on the History channel, it's a pretty good bet that about 95% of it is made up. Fun fact about Vikings. Eckbert died about 20 years before Ragnar Lothbrok.
Calvert28
I don't know why so many people are caught up on facts. This is Hollywood we are talking about. They don't believe in facts or truths. They only care about the most convincing story and opinions.
Buddyboy
If this is 1836 Texas, what would they do with President Polk in the 1840s bringing California into the union?
Buddyboy
1836 Andrew Jackson was President. In Texas, Generals Santa Ana and Sam Houston were complicated politician-generals viewed as both brilliant and error prone, in long careers. The Battles of the Alamo and San Jacinto are complex and decided the fate of two nations. I would enjoy a serious mini series on the events.
