Texas Rising

The real "wild west" lasted about 20 years in various parts of 19th century America. Hollywood has stretched it for close to a century. The Old West died in Buffalo Bill's Wild West show in NYC.

The History Channel drama Texas Rising has borrowed a century of cinema cliches and mixed it with Buffalo Bill entertainment.

Real history this is not. Second rate propaganda, maybe.

Interesting critique. I might watch it.

1836 Andrew Jackson was President. In Texas, Generals Santa Ana and Sam Houston were complicated politician-generals viewed as both brilliant and error prone, in long careers.

The Battles of the Alamo and San Jacinto are complex and decided the fate of two nations.

I would enjoy a serious mini series on the events.
