2018 Expansion Draft - Saints

Imagine a new team is being ushered into the league. Every team has to pick 5 players from its roster. Designated players will be pooled (32 teams, 5 players each for a total of 160 players) and be made available to the new team via the Expansion Draft. From the total pool (and current list of Free Agents), the new franchise will pick (or “draft”) a full 53-player roster for the 2018-19 season.

Typically, teams offer up players they’re actively looking to get rid of (declining performance, age, salary). 

 

Designation Rules:

No kickers and punters.

No players set to become free agents.

No players who just spent an entire year on injured reserve.

Only one player with 10 or more years of experience.

 

That being said... What 5 players would you offer up for the 2018-19 season? Why?

Do we have to eat any of the guaranteed money or do the cap hits follow to the new team?  That is a big decider on who we would offer up.  Maybe Kurt Coleman/Ted Ginn for the 10 year guy, then some of the DL guys that we drafted recently that aren't bad so likely wouldn't get picked unless they needed cheaper depth.

This is hard to do without using guys that are gonna be FAs. 

QB - Taysom Hill. Sean loves the guy, I've seen absolutely nothing from him that makes me think he's some prodigy we need to keep around.

RB - Trey Edmunds. Solid but not special runner with a pretty lengthy injury history IIRC. Easy position to fill with a veteran.

WR - Travin Dural. Signed a 2 year deal this winter to remain a Saint, but there's a logjam in front of him.

DT - Taylor Stallworth. UDFA this year, signed a 3-year deal. Not sure about him, but he was a UDFA so theres a chance we can get him back anyways. 

FS - Kurt Coleman. Never liked the deal. This seems like a good out.
